Rob

Sorry to be a party pooper an all that but I cant help noticing that you've posted a picture showing a sign (presumerably on one of the lanes you used) which shows a bridleway and two footpath markers. Further on you show a picture of you driving out of a lane which appears to be signed "public footpath" (or is my eye sight failing me?).

Is this some kind of joke or are you just desperate to get prosecuted under the Road Traffic Act?

Ok if you're genuinely unclear about whats legal and whats not I can understand that, I know it's not always simple (we've all had to learn from someone) but if your just wandering around the countryside driving were you like then not only are you opening yourself up to criminal charges (and don't laugh there are some places where the authorities are mad keen to get prosecutions) but your also damaging the cause of legal greenlaning!

Sorry about the negative tone of this post (they do look like great lanes and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself) but greenlaning is under threat today like never before. The last thing we need to do is hand ammo to our enemies!

Cheers

Richard

hi richard the lane i drove onto was a boat, it was marked as a public bridleway but had many vehicle track going up to it, i'd checked the wayfinder but found no record of this lane, i spoke to my local ROW officer and he agreed with me that it would be ok to drive that lane, it was a mate of mine who pointed out that the lane was posted as a bridleway (sorry i was not more informative in my last post) plus i filled out a form and dropped it off at the council offices to show that the lane has no damage sustained by my travels on the day, i can understand your cause for alarm richard but don't worry mate, the signpost i put a picture up of showed two footpaths and a bridleway, the bridleway was the one i had travelled up, i'd done everything by the book that day just so there would be no problems via the council or otherwise
plus if you were on about this one

thats a greenlane heading up to a public footpath it takes you up towards foulridge sailing club

Ahh, sorry about that, perhaps I was a bit hasty to judge you!

Incorrect signage is a problem in plenty of counties and it just serves to confuse people. Trouble is, even when your in the right as you obviously were there other people will see the photos (or will actually see you on the lane) and assume the sign must be right.

Of course it's the authorities job sort that out, perhaps you should report it to them. Most authorities welcome this kind of input from the public as they make mistakes like anyone else and wont neccessarily know about it unless someone reports it.

Cheers

well put mate, after reading this post earlier this morn i decided to ring my mate up who works at pendle councils countryside access dept, i told him about that signage and he told me to meet him there, i did and he pointed out just where the footpath is, some idiots have turned the sign round so it points in the opposite direction, he's glad that i've pointed it out to him and is currently looking round the area for more signs which have been messed with
