Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Took off the Special Tracks and fitted the Coopers as next outing is a green lane session
While it was over the pit had a quick check over for damage after the P&P and besides the steering idler it also needs an O/S driveshaft and CV joint, hoping the cup in the halfshaft is OK otherwise I am going to have to drop the diff ![]() Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Boring but necessary, engine oil change and filter + air filter.
Is there an easy way of getting the dregs of dirty oil out of the oil filter holder? I see there's a torx type bolt on each side of the filter holder, are they drains? Cheers people.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Place mattress on the drive, roll truck onto it's roof with the mattress underneath. Place can under the oil filter holder and let the oil drain out then roll truck back on it's feet... Job done
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!took a little detour when picking something up for the missus through the local wash road.... it was only 6 inch deep according to the signs..... yeah right 6 inch at the beginning but then got deeper....it was over the front auto hubs.... got half way through and landy coming the other way had a bow wave of sorts ( couldn't reverse due to indiots in landrovers right up my bum) and bloody engine cuts out.... landrovers all laughing as they pass...... not one of them stopped to help..... tried to start but starter wouldn't turn..... got out rather reluctantly took air filter out which was soaked got back in and prayed to wwhoever would listen and spun the starter and luckally it fired on 2 kept it ticking over for a few seconds and eventually all 4 fired in and I managed to get out the other end...... what idiot thought it was a good idea to put a air intake in the wheel arch...... one thing tho noticed how nice the turbo sounds without an airfilter on a tds...... maybe time for a snorkel.....
2.3 td lwb died in spectacular style when all liquids in engine bay ended up in the sump....

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Was that the Welney road? I'm surprised it's still open. They normally close it as soon as it clouds over. It's a good ford tho! Must have been some bow wave tho to flood your engine! I've had water well over my bonnet without a modded in take when I had fronteras

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I have had a coolant leak off and on for a couple of years now. Never been able to trace it. Came to light when I parked up the other day and a small lake appeared. Heater matrix hose. Looked a bit stretched after the 3" body lift and finally gave out.
Anyways out came the trusty Transit hose. Cut another bit off and managed to contort it enough to fit. Even used genuine Jubilee clips to hold it on there ![]() ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!More a case of what I've done over the past week really in preparation for MOT and the new laning season.
All CV boots, yep up-rights off and shafts removed, none of this split boots and glue. Both bottom ball joints, not worn out but had no resistance to the pin movement. All shock absorber bushes. Steering idler. Both hand brake cables, only had one cable clip securing bolt shear, even managed to get the broken bit out so I could reuse the mounting point. Changed the rear discs and pads while I was at it. Set up the O/S/F wheel bearings as prescribed in the Haynes book of lies, bought myself an electronic spring balance, you use this to check the preload on the bearings. Basically you adjust the bearing up until it takes 1.2 kg of force to rotate the hub at a wheel stud. Must say it seems awfully tight, I'll let you all know ho it gets on (got a couple sets of new bearings in case it all goes puppies up). Has anybody on here tried this method.... successfully or otherwise.... opinions welcomed. All I got to do now is book and pass the MOT early next month and service the winch. Laters Stuart Remember, keep the greasy side down!
