Mate that would be awesome! :)

I'm in no real rush to do it tbh, the longer I soak everything in WD can only be a good thing right?

Yup. What I did was locate the 4 off rear ones and drill a small hole (4mm) above it through the floor and squirt WD40 onto the end of the captive bolts to help it penetrate the threads.

This should help you find all 12 of them. The back four are definitely captive (screwing upwards) but I have a suspicion the next pair forwards are also. Could be wrong. Also the captive bolts are M10 fine thread .. not the normal coarse thread the rest are.

That's a massive help, cheers

Looks like I've located all 12, looking at them i agree the rear 6 are captive. What do I do if I snap one? Or more??

Is there only me and you reading this thread? :silent: lol

Not sure if the LWB A is the same as the SWB A but when I did my SWB I did snap off a captive. I was able to get an open ended spanner inside a box reinforcing section onto the nut. That said, I did end up having a different approach and cut a hole in the floor above the locating bolt. Not a problem for me as my motor is a pure toy but for a decent looking motor like yours, it might be a same to cut a hole in the boot floor.

Slowley but surely. When I loosened mine off my 1990 Trooper (same layout) I drilled that small hole above through the floor. I ended up with 6 off 5mm holes that are now hidden under the carpet. I soaked and soaked and soaked for a couple of weeks beforehand. When I went to loosen them way before actually doing the lift I initially tightened them by 1/8th a turn, then slowly but steadily undid it. When I felt it binding, I backed it off a turn. Let it settle (and cool down believe it or not) and then went at it again. Patience is the key. When I removed the two captives furthest forward the unthreaded shank was half the diameter due to corrosion. If I hadn't taken my time it would of surely snapped.

If you snap one then there are a few options. Drill it out from above, weld a nut on and go again (often the heat from welding helps break the binding. Nothing to panic over .. though best to avoid it if possible. The front 6 are not an issue. If you snap one then you can just butcher it out as they are nut and bolt jobbies. You are replacing them anyway.

Hi

Regarding the lift, nothing needs extending for a 2 inch lift, but to be safe when doing the lift unclip the brake pipes from the inner wings, slacken off the hose connecting the tank to the filler neck and remove the rad cowl. After completing the lift refit all but the cowl. On mine I binned the cowl and viscous fan and fitted 2x 10inch electric fans direct to the rad, wired and piped accordingly.

as for the rear body bolts, had the same fears as you and succeeded in snapping the first bolt I touched with a socket, head snapped off it. Once the body was lifted I managed to get stilsons/grips to the shaft of the bolt between body and chassis.

difference between yours and mine is mine is a A series 2.8 SWB so you have a few bolts more and the body is heavier. I've got a set of front bumper irons already modded for a 2 inch body lift if your interested, I built a winch bumper for mine so don't use them. Got the wrap around bull bar to match the bumper as well.

Regards

Stuart

Thanks for the info Chaps

Well, curiosity got the better of me tonight. I was itching to try and SLOWLY unbolt one... just one, just to see how easy (or hard) it would be

Armed with a drill, box of good drill bits, and a tap and die set ready for a long night, and a pot of grease 'just in case it came out ok' I started on the o/s/r and.... No dramas! Wound it out a bit, back a bit, out a bit more and so on till I could take it out by hand  Greased it up and put it back in and did the same with the next, and the next. All 6 came out with no worrys what so ever    Happy days indeed

I'll just cut the middle 2 out on both sides and with any luck the fronts will unbolt easy enough, or snap and save me the hassle

Stuart, I've got an electric fan on mine not a viscous one so I don't need to trim the cowl  I might have to twist/trim the lower hose though.
Just a thought... if the bottom of the rad sits on the chassis (I think) and the top is held in place by the bracket on the body, whats going to hold it in place once I've lifted it?

'Might' lift it tomorrow afternoon after work, failing that i'll make a start on Tuesday night :excited:

Don't think you'll have any dramas with the rad. IIRC the rad fixing are attached to the bodywork.
That's why the cowl as to be cut on the viscious fan versions. The body goes up and the viscious fan, being bolted onto the engine, stays where it is.

Am I right in thinking the front bumpers attached to the chassis? So in theory I could leave it on for now and lift it to suit in due course? I don't like the idea of running without it, not that it really does anything but it just looks neater lol

Cheers RatCav  Only thing is, I wanna go higher now

I've redrilled both bumpers and put them back on but whilst they were off I jet washed the underside of the body and the chassis rail. I then wire brushed it and waxoiled it all bar a small section that needs welding... properly

Someones done a top quality patchwork repair there :lolno:

I also found why we often smelt fuel at the rear, the smaller of the 2 inlet pipes has a nice split in it (In the rubber hose) It's on top of the pipe so isn't leaking as such but i'll replace that tomorrow as I know theres some hydraulic hose the same diameter at work

Job done. The tank is far easier once you have the body lifted.

Saw you today and waved. Was in a little Silver Golf as you were heading out of town towards lostock hall ;)

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha, I've been racking my brains all day wondering who that was!!!!

How'd the Fronty look???? :4x4:

Would have been a tank drop job to get at that pipe, and I doubt id have found it if it wasn't for lifting it! I also found a very wet muddy rag on top of the tank too haha

Looked good mate. Definitely looking the part now ;)

I was just back from the Trooper owners club annual. We found a pair of boxer shorts hanging off one guys axle after he went through a mud pit

Popped out to the shop earlier and 'just so happened' to have a camera in the car. One of the kids but hey, although trying to look cool whilst taking photos with a big chunky 'KiddyZoom' cameras near on impossible
