Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!- cam belt tensioned and everything put back together
- new water pump - new v belts - intercooler and pipes back on and reinforced with self amalgamating tape to stop them flexing under boost - new radiator (gotta buy an electric fan as my idea to fit the 2.0 one didnt work as too wide and hits the fan pulley where viscous fan was) - started on glow plugs but will be easier with a deep socket, what a tricky little job this is! - new fuel filter - noticed replacement copper brake line is weeping - boo hoo, try again! running out of bits in the box - must be a good sign i am getting close to the end cold stopped play......
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!That rear glowplug is easier with one of those knuckle joints

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!They can't be top difficult, given the speed at which you removed Sophie's glowplugs at Avalanche.
Got a new set to go in myself actually, starting the engine of a morning is becoming a little slow now Jim...

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!It is easier if you "adjust" the fuel lines to get to them. The back one on the Frontera is under the bulkhead in effect.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!A dab of bluetak in the end of the socket helps to lift the glowplug out when fully loosened.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Thanks for heads up on fan Chris - what was reason for staying viscous in the end?
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!And thanks Neal and Pete for glow plug tips. If i ever warm up again i might finish them off.
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!can see the theory behind this certainly but imagine that in practice the reduction in cooling of air when at low speed would be limited (intercoolers are pretty small on fronty) and indeed whether this would actually increase power noticeably and whether it would be needed at low speed.
possibly the reduction in power would be offset by the increase in power by reducing engine drag from viscous fan? trooper has different set up so doesn't get this "free cooling", don't think they suffer unduly? anyone know what the 2.5tds set up is - electric or viscous fan?
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!The 2.5 is viscous fan. You have to go aftermarket slimline. I even tried a B series 2.2i as they are twin fans but they are to wide for the rad/intercooler pipes
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!IIRC the Top Mounted Intercooler on the trooper has an electric fan to pull air through ?
2.5 is viscous TBH it was just my musing, there are slim leccy fans available that might do the job Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Found some spare time today so made a start on the exhaust
Made a flexi hose to go between the downpipe and centre box then discovered the downpipe would need to be shortened so the flanges on the flexi section cleared the crossmember, ho hum ![]() Chopped up the centre box, rewelded the pipework, added a short piece of tube, added another flange and ended up with this Before ![]() Ready to fit (minus hangers) ![]() Cut off the hangers off the chassis, turned upsidedown, repositioned and welded back onto the chassis then bent some round bar to make a bracket for the exhaust box at which point the regulator I recently bought to use a disposable argon bottle for stainless welding decided to disintergrate Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
