Job for Sat will be having a good look at the front drive shafts and CV's. Changing the top ball joints and I'll replace the wheel bearings as well while it's in bits... Thats the plan...
WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Been getting a bit of a rumble from the front when cornering of late and then there was that occasional 'banging' from the front end when in 4WD that appeared at the annual so I ordered up a set of front wheel bearings and seals for Truck.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Spent 4 hours last night ripping the braking system apart on the Frontera.
So that will be the Master Cylinder changed for one I had knocking around the garage for the last 5 years. Took me an hour alone to take it apart and clean and flush all the gunge out of it (looks brand new now) New brakes lines from the Master to the splitter unions. New brake lines at the back. Bias valve removed (wasn't connected to the axle anyway as the bushes there had retired many years ago it seems, so it wasn't doing anything). Coupled with the following I did over the last 2 weeks: Reconditioned front brake calipers New front brake pads. Now have more of a pedal than ever before, but still spongy on the first pedal press. Light doesn't come on with repeated pumping of the pedal (came on after the second press before I changed the Cylinder). Must be a bit of air still trapped inside somewhere so more bleeding necessary. Either way its looking good. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Got told the path in the back garden needs sorting.... So we went to B&Q in O-no and bought a pallet of 600 x 600 concrete slabs (20 slabs), tossed the lot into the back and drove home. Soooo looking forward to laying the ****** things.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Decided as the weather has been rather nice to investigate the reason why a previous owner had decided to silicon around the sunroofs on my SWB 2.2dti.
Starting with the front sunroof i gently applied even pressure on the glass and the silicon creaked and finally popped. Took the sunroof out, carefully peeled off all the remaining silicon both from the sunroof and the aperture. There were some splits on the seal on the sunroof itself. I fixed this with Sugru (i bloody LOVE that stuff!) I got a length of tubing (surplus from my fish tank air pump system) poked it down each drainage hole in turn. Took a BIG gob full of water and blew it down the drainage. Everything was unblocked and running lovely. Then went to the rear sunroof. Repeated the process. When i blew water down the drivers side channels i heard a gurgling but no water dripped onto the floor.. I tried again.. gurgling.. no water. Took the rear drivers side jack cover trim off and came face to face with the drainage tube with grommet still attached which had been pouring water under the plastic trim into the boot and rear footwell. Removed the jack and the associated bars and gubbins and felt around for the hole for the drainage. Found a square box. A tow bar electrics relay, gave it a tug and lo and behold the chopped wires of a tow bar loom pulled through a hole where the drainage pipe and grommet might be. What kind of moron pulls out a drainage pipe to use the hole for tow bar electrics? So hopefully, the reason why everything was siliconed up was because of that one stupid action. It's nice to have sunroofs in this lovely weather. And that.. was my day in a nutshell. 1999 2.2DTI Shorty

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Whilst i was very sad to see my old type 3 vw go the other month, it has at least allowed me to get the truck back in the workshop and do some work out of the rain on Saturday!
So over two days, i have replaced the following on both sides; Top ball joints Bottom ball joints Track rods and both ball joints Inner and outer cv boots Decreased and repacked wheel bearings (should last another year) Painted stub axles, wishbones Readjusted ride height Thank the lord for 3/4 socket set and grinder!!!!! Now just got to adjust steering box and then work on the rear end including attend to a pinion seal leak or replace back axle - leaking badly but want to wait until i fit my new bits from US for the transfer box
