I have been a long time lurker here trying to absorb some knowledge.

For a while I have been wanting to replace the current shed with a small SWB 4x4, something that I can move my caravan with (1800kgs) occasionally , at most twice a year.
Currently we have a huge great van type people carrier for caravan (and kid) duties, but I cant see the point in running something that big all the time and its a bugger to park, when a smaller 7 seat one will do the job of family haulabout.

So I have been thinking for a very long time about a small 4x4. To be honest the only thing that puts me off the Fronty is the lack of a 5th seat, though its very very rare that I need to carry 5, so I can probably live without it. Plus I would like to do a bit of green laning.

So there you go, once Winter is over and the prices have lost their OMGSNOKAOS tax then I shall be actively looking for a SWB Fronty - for preference a 2.8 A series in red, but santa says Ive been naughty and so I'll take what I can find.

The 2.8 is a good choice, but you could probably pick up a DTI B for what one costs and save some fuel tokens, or maybe a 2.5tds? I've got the 2.5 lwb n I think it's great, seems more powerful than a 2.8 too

Hi mate and welcome to the forum. You will find the long wheelbase Fronties do have 5 seats and there great fun to drive too!!!!

Just stick a lwb in 4 wheel drive and go for it ! You will find you can park almost anywhere!
The other cars might get a few dents along the way though and you wouldn't have many friends left!!!!!!

Have you added a lap belt or managed to wedge the rear bench from a LWB into it?
Even this 2004 one only has 4 seats.

It was like that when I bought it, it's got a load of crap in the back at the minute so when I empty it later I will have a good look. The seats fold then flip and the middle lap belt is fastened to the floor iirc. The truck was destined for Ireland when it was built so maybe a different spec??

So, Resurrecting a long dead thread like Lazarus on a Friday night.

The five-seat SWB monster won and I bought this:


Which was smaller than a shorty landy as it turns out


And was incredibly hateful. It was too small inside for 5, too small for my fat ass and frankly hideous to drive on tarmac. Its one redeeming feature was a LSD.
It could also be persuaded to do 13 MPG if pushed, though people did assure me 27 was possible.
No longer need something for caravan towing as I bought this:

Which tends to stay where it is pretty much.

Flogged the Mav, bought the Fanny Magnet

and now want another 4x4. I need to find a short Fronty and see if there is enough room for me to fit behind the wheel.
