Hi all, stumbled across this site after trying to source parts for my Frontera V6 I bought off a mate literally 4 hours ago lol.
Have to say I've had a quick flick through the forums and its ace!...full of all the info you could ever need.

I notice people saying swb/lwb type A and B and to be honest I'm not sure what mine is. I have a 99 V reg 3.2 V6 limited if that helps.

I'm currently looking for a new set of clocks as mine don't work (the rev counter only works when you turn the sidelights on) and the odometer and speedometer don't work at all). I'm also on the lookout for a bull bar with the square spot lamps and side steps.

I would also like some wider wheels/tyres on it to make it look a bit more beefy....and er....wider lol

As for the motor itself....I'll be honest I wasn't actually looking for one. I'm more of a jap lover and have owned plenty if scooby's and evos in the past but decided to go sensible after my wife fell pregnant with our first so I bought a Lexus is200 which after owning 5 years (never once skipped a beat), sold it today. I wouldn't have sold it but now I have 3 sprogs it simply wasn't practical enough and as the frontera come at a great price I thought what the hell and got it (think it was the 3.2L engine that swung it for me lol) and I have to say in chuffed to bits with it so far. For a motor that weighs nearly 2 ton it certainly motors along.
The guy who had the frontera before me has had from new and has been serviced regularly and looked after. Have noticed a but of rust on the corners of both rear door sills but I'll get that sorted.
So apart from those hopefully minor things it looks like a good motor, I just hope it lasts a good while and doesn't give me too much grief lol.

Hi Stewart,

Welcome to FOG. Good news if you're a lover of Jap motors, the Frontera is more or less Isuzu with a few GM tweaks.
To clear up any confusion, SWB (or Sport, too) refers to the short wheelbase 2 door cars, while LWB is the long wheelbase 4 door models. The Frontera had a big redesign done in 1998; the straight, more angular cars up to this point are the A-series and the more rounded ones with a button on the dash to engage the 4WD system are the B-series.
Yours will be a B.

Sounds like you've got a decent truck; the 3.2 is a powerful lump and the clocks and sills are not uncommon niggles. Plenty of advice on all your bugs and wants in the forums, and lots of people to help with any questions you might have

Hi mate and welcome to the forum. Jim is correct in all he say's so you have got a great motor. All the Frontera's now are starting to show there age so need a bit of TLC but with the guy's and girl's on here its possible to have a realy good truck. Once again welcome!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I'm currently sitting in the drivers seat with the dash in pieces, clocks in pieces with just the circuit board in my hands trying to find what the problem is.
I've had a quote of £250 to have the cluster repaired but I can't justify that for a bit of soldering lol so trying to find the problem myself which isn't going too well.

Are there any links to any threads on here where this has been discussed before (pretty sure I read somewhere about swapping a wire for the sidelights to trick the cluster into lighting up?).

Any help guys?


On a good note, I managed to change the stereo for a pioneer CD player which resulted in me having to test the wires to find a 12v supply, ignition and negative. Also had to bell out the speaker wires and I ended up changing all the speaker for pioneer jobbies also.


.......still sounds like a Walkman tho lol

Also had a good look around the engine bay.....wouldn't fancy changing the alternator but the oil filter looks a doddle.

Have a shufti in the Electrics subforum bud...

As I said, the clocks playing silly sods on the B-series is such a common fault that it's a surprise to find a car that hasn't needed soldering or similar on the circuitboard.
There's guides on what to do, and there may even be members who'll do the fix for you (but I could be wrong on that score)

Hi buddy ... glad you like your Isuzu Rodeo with its Isuzu 3.2V6 DOHC 6VD1W engine

As people have said its an Isuzu with a few Vauxhall modifications.

A lot of the mechanics are common to the Isuzu Trooper/Bighorn as well, so endless source of parts available.

Thanks for even more warm welcomes guys. So the motor is more jap than vx?....even better news.

As for the clocks....tomorrow they're coming out (again) and I intend to go to war with my soldering iron in hand.

Just had a quote from a breakers yard for a fully working dash with 3 months warranty £190 plus postage?
