hi all

i've been thinking about getting a 4x4 for some time now and i bumped into a farmer i useta help. we got talkin and he has a 2.8td frontera he wants rid of.

she has 163401 on her. can anyone tell me what to look for when buying a frontera as i dont have a clue. any help would be appreciated

You cant go far wrong with a 2.8 mate...they are good trucks.

Just the usual checks, rust on the sills and front panel behind the bumper...
Check it drives ok, with no horrid noises from the clutch/gearbox as that could point to dmf problems.
The engine is pretty bulletproof, and everything else is readily available and cheap to buy...

Oh by the way...if it sounds like someone left a spanner inside the engine when you start it up....
...dont worry...they all sound like that, its part of their charm...
...and besides, they quiten down after a while...when you have turned it off again.

ive not had time to have a proper look at her. am gonna try and get round in the next week or so. is it true the 2.8 can get 30mpg?

Hi, and welcome to the forum...

You might get up around the 30mpg mark on a nice steady (HGV speed) cruise, but for general useage expect more like 23-25 or so. Still, that's not bad for a 15 year old 2 tonne 4x4 with the aerodynamics of a brick and an engine originally dating from the previous decade.
As Greg says, the engine is damn near bulletproof as long as it has regular servicing, ont other point to check would be the bulkhead by the foot pedaks, which is prone to splitting.
