Noob - UK model I've now got in Europe

Postby gtvsaviour on Fri May 24, 2013 9:28 am

Morning all,

I'm a serial hunk-o-junk buyer with only 1 of my vehicles' purchase price being over £500!
I practice/follow that motoring philosophy bangernomics............

I originally grabbed a Pajero auto for peanuts to do a bit of laning/off-roading around here, but the GF loves it and uses it constantly, back to the drawing board. A friend/contact shouted he had a trade-in that would be good base for not much monies, so I headed back to blighty again to purchase and pick up a very tired but fairly presentable 2.4 Petrol LWB manual series2 on an M plate. I then jumped in, drove it 100+miles to a family gathering, then 300+ miles across the pond to my place without a problem. Couple of scabs here n there, only one to deal with the rear of drivers side cill, but not deep and shouldn't be too big an issue.
Front of bonnet is behind a plastic 'protector?' but the car was left standing for ages before I got it hence the bonnet front lip has completely disappeared.... rotten vegetation left to do its worst over time. repair or replace but a job for 'another day'.
Interior was a horror show and I'm convinced it was used to transport sheep or similar regularly..... a long slow process cleaning it, but getting there and bearable now.

Engine has just passed the 170K mark and I think the blow-by (chuffing a LOT but no oil spray with oil filler cap off when running) is getting excessive although she runs pretty well TBH. Recently overheated standing which led me to discover both rad rubber mounts had let go - rad is fine but shroud prevents fan turning as it's rubbing.... small bolts needed and this weekends 5min fix I hope.
Bulkhead around clutch pedal/cylinder mount already beefed up by PO - so should be OK.

Now off to hunt down engine and caliper rebuild parts for the beast as I expect an overhaul will be called for as I love the thing already
I'll be trawling this site for info and ideas as I look at making this one just for me...... already on info overload!

Cheers

John

p.s. - pics asap as like a muppet I dropped the camera and mullered it :oh yer: - will get some taken soon(ish).

She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body...
Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer!
