Had the day off work, so did the front wheel barrings on the 2.5, thought id make a start getting it ready for any laning trips that may arise

Managed to get a slot for a MOT this afternoon so stuck O-no in...

Complete waste of time that was lol... O-no lived up to it's name and failed...

Failed on:
Parking Brake efficiency: 14%
Front Brake imbalance: 35%
Off Side front anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play

Advisory Items:
Off side rear brake pipe slightly corroded (it's copper ffs).
Nearside front cv joint gaiter deteriorated, but preventing ingress of dirt (no, chance am I falling for that one and getting the garage to change it).
Offside front cv joint gaiter deteriorated, but preventing ingress of dirt (ditto).
Offside front wheel bearing has slight play.


N/S front caliper lower bolt was seized up, took a good whacking to get it out so all the calipers will be getting the treatment this week.
Off side front anti-roll bar linkage now changed. Had to chop the old un off with mr anglegrinder...

Deadline is looming, need to get it finished, MOT'd and taxed by the weekend so I can go and play so the saga of the front end rebuild continues

As of Fri I had completed the rebuild of the NSF suspension and steering, new ball joints, new wheel bearings, oil seals, CV joint support bearing, replaced driveshaft with spare from my parts collection, new +2" Rough Country Shock absorber and had stripped the OSF ready for its rebuild.

I Junked the OS driveshaft, ball joints, stub axle as they were all past it. Built up a spare hub assembly and stub axle with new ball joints, bearings, seals etc and fitted but something didn't seen right, inner CV joint was way too easy to get back together and after checking it turns out my spare driveshaft does not fit the Trooper axle, checked passenger side and it too is incorrect. SH ones on order hopefully be here tomorrow.

Aisin manual hubs, stripped into their component parts, cleaned, greased and refitted, new +2" rough country shock fitted to drivers side.

Stripped rear brakes, cleaned out the mud, adjusted hand brake shoes and reassembled

Discovered there was no bottom bolt in the alternator and the belt had too much slack, managed to find spare bolt and fitted a new belt.

It is now all back together (yes with the wrong driveshafts) and ready for MOT, only concern is after replacing everything on the steering and suspension on the front I still have play in the steering, looks like the steering box has a little too much play in its main shaft, hoping it will get an advise from Mr MOT man otherwise its time to guess which steering box in my shed is the best one to use, pretty sure they were both good and not leaking

As a little experiment, I have used synthetic waterproof grease on the drivers side and 'normal' wheel bearing grease on the passengers side, interesting to see if there is any difference in the long term performance

Well the good old disco is getting the spa treatment coming up next week full engine service cam belt and pullys aux belt new disc and pads oils and filter change new 2" off rosd suspention new set of disco wheels wraped in some 235/85/16 muds cb radio custom sticker

Actually... That's a good idea...just leave the old exhaust side of the turbo and replace the front and innards....from what I can tell all the bearings are on the intake side so would be doable much easyer, also means I don't have move the down pipe studs over to the new turbo! Massive bonus! Thanks Neal!

New turbo is now fitted, had to change the exhaust part of it too because the exhaust turbine was smaller on the new one and thus needed a smaller bore to seat properly, and I guess work properly too.

Tryed to change the oil but when I snapped one of my biggest screw drivers trying to get the oil filter off I gave up Why can't anything go to plan arhhhh

The clue is in the description Dan, screw drivers are for screws like lever bars are for levering and hammers for hammering. Use a filter wrench for the filter then things go to plan!

Today I did an engine oil change by god it needed it because the old oil was as black as the ace of spade.
Plus replaced the winch fairlead for a better one

So today I decided to rip out the rest of the foglight wiring that the previous owner had put together which were the foglights sat on my bullbar. And I have started boardng out the back with plywood due to my fronty being a work vehicle. The joys of self employment lol
