Ford Run 6th July

Right, Here We go! This is confirmed!!!

OK, 19:00 Meet up at

Ye Olde Saracens Head
Balsall St, Balsall Common, Coventry, West Midlands CV7 7AS

Lovely Pub with a BIG Car Park! Plenty of room for lots of Frontys'

http://www.yell.com/search/ShowMap?nat_ ... bleSeed%3D

Then we Start the Run at about 19:30.

Leave the Car Park and Turn Right onto Balsall Street , A right Turn onto
Fernhill Lane and through the first Ford of the Run
Sedgemere Ford 2

Then Up the Road until you hit the Crossroads and
Turn Right onto Long Brook Lane there you'll go through the second Ford
Sedgemere Ford 1

Follow the Lane all the way up until you come back onto Balsall Street and Turn Left and go up the Road until you see the Mud Lane Entrance of a UCR on the Right (Single Lane so we can't all get down there but can walk) is the third Ford
Temple Balsall Ford
Regretfully it's one at a time and turn around and drive back through from the other side as the Green Lane/UCR on the other side is in a bad state!

Then onto Kenilworth Road for a Drive over to Henly-in-Arden, so it's up to Knowle and across then down Station Road all the way down there until you hit the A3400 and Turn Left. Follow that all the way down and Through Henly-in-Arden then a Left Turn onto Warwick Road then a Left Turn onto Rookery Lane. Dead End Road called Preston Fields Lane...
This IS a Dead End for most vehicles as it becomes a Green Lane.
Head down the Lane and you go through the fourth Ford
Preston Fields Ford

Back to Henly-in-Arden and along the A4189 then a Left onto the A435
and Hang a Left at Coughton Court down the Coach Access Road! Follow the Road along until you arrive at the fifth Ford
Coughton Ford

Then follow the Road all the way down the twists and turns until you reach the end at the B4089 then Turn Left and go all the way through Alne until you see the tiny Mill Lane on the Right! (You can tell by the Warning Signs for Ford and Weight Limit on the Bridge!) then Bounce your way down the Road until you get to the Bottom and find yourself at the sixth Ford
Great Alne Ford

Then it's slowly head back over to the Pub where we started, have a Coke/Shandy and a Chinwag.
Also have a sneak preview of the Video and photographic footage recorded through the Journey!

I'm quite looking forward to this little outing.

I'll be heading there straight after work (and giving my bos a lift home to that very same village), so I'll probably be in the pub around 6:15pm sampling the bar meals :D

Here are a few ford driving tips that come to mind...

Petrol engined Frontera owners - take some WD40 with you, just in case.

Diesel engined Frontera drivers - you (we) are not invicible, you still need to take care.

Don't dive straight into the ford, drive in slowly, allowing the vehicle to submerge without a huge tidal wave over the bonnet, then add power to push through the water, but only enough to create a bow wave.

If you stall your engine in the ford, do not restart it unless you are absolute sure the exhaust pipe is not submerged - see the sticky on driving tips.

Know where your tow points are.

The fords will be public roads - not play sites !!! No one will score any point for the biggest splash.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

What CB/PMR channel shall we use ?

Lawrence,

I'm not sure on CB Channels yet
My handheld didn't turn up this morning!
I'm hoping that either of the 2 Units I've won turn up tomorrow morning!
If both Turn up then I'll pass one to Matt so he's not out of the loop!

We'll probably get to the pub around 18:50 as we have to Recce the 2 Deepest!
Did a Vid of Great Alne Today and it was at most 1.5ft deep!!

I always have WD-40 in my Fronty (I'm pretty sure it's mucked my Fan Motor up as it's making some noises!! but still running fine)
I'll have my Tow Rope attached to my Front Tow Point.

You get points at Coughton!!
The Vids from the Bridge will be fine as they're outside of the Splashdown!
The Road surface is Slightly rutted with a fine covering of River Slime so it can be slippy (especially for Cyclists who Dare to try it) but Safe Run-Up from 5-10 Metres and good Slow Down Area after it!

I also Checked today on areas by the Fords that we would be safe to Engage and Disengage 4wd including Roll-Backs!! Good at all sites and a bit tight at Temple Balsall

Andy,
I checked Coughton & Great Alne today, will check them tomorrow as well nearer meet time but all that rain we've had has had no effect on the Water Levels as yet.....

CB channel 8 seems to be traditional for Fronty trips, so I'm on that :D

Well, I'm looking at doing a Recce on the Deepest ones so I'll be leaving Soli around 17:30. If you want I'll meet you at Coughton and lead you back to the Pub?

Looks like my mate in the LR90 will be joining us as well

Channel 8 it is then.
