Christmas - New Year: Laning?

Postby 2much on Wed Dec 19, 2012 6:44 pm

Is anyone considering a little laning between christmas and new year? Bad Boy led a trip year before last and was good to get out and about.

i have no maps or visibilty of where we could go but seem to remember hertford / essex area has quite a few and not too far if someone with the appropriate knowledge / maps is up for it?

willing to take a co-pilot as well...

I was talking to Bad boy last week and he wanted to do one this year but he don't have a frontera any more. He asked me if we could do one in mine with him riding shotgun but at the moment I'm not working so don't have any spare money for fuel to do it.

I have a few routes around Essex and Essex/Herts, Herts and 1 in north Kent which I can offer and if any one wants to lead I can co-pilot and direct but it will be subject to dates.
At best I can only do 29th or 30th, but I may not have a car to get to a meet point if Sharon wants to use ours.

Offer is there. I can email the routes for MM to anyone who wants them (PM your email), however I have not done any of the lanes for 10months+ so you will need to check for TRO's etc.
If I can't attend then I will identify any 'interesting' ones as unless we have a big freeze some lanes may be very difficult and probably best avoided due to the risk of grounding or sinking due to very soft ground. 1 example required a winch and lots of strops to get a car moving again in Feb this year (you know who you were  ) and that was due to sodden ground, AT tyres and standard ride height
Any with fords you will also need to check river levels too.

I'm told Violets lane is still passable with a snorkel at the moment

Think I'm not going to be able to make it this year. Initially, I would have only been able to do New Years Eve but got something else on the to do list for that day.
As a side note, joined in with an event organised by the local Kent off roading boys. We've got some pretty good lanes in our area that really need doing again in the not so distant future

I'm awaiting a day pass now :(
Will keep you informed

Andy, I know you've text me, but my phone is fubar at the mo and I can't text back till I get it back from repair on Friday

Also, having walked the dog down a local lane to me I'm thinking that "interesting" would be the current conditions on most of the lanes that haven't been graded, and they would probably be best avoided unless we have a couple of winches and lots of strops.
Violets lane is currently running @ 3M deep so that's out, as will be almost all the fords (buttsbury is a good guide and that's impassable at the mo), as is Dunmow (overturned Disco in the ford due to stupidly trying to cross it  ) and IMO a day out on only graded lanes is a bit boring
