Hi Roo, Make sure that your AVG is up-to-date and your operating system. This is also very important. You can do this from either http://www.windowsupdate.com or there may be a "Windows Update" option on your PC, usually not far from the [Start] Button or in Program Files. Did you recognise the message as definately being from AVG? Or was it something like this: So called "FakeAlert" type trojan's can infect your pc just by visiting infected/compromised websites. If the operating system and other applications like Accrobat PDF reader, Java, etc are also out of date then this malware will be able to install itself onto your pc as it uses vulnrabilities in the OS and application version to install it'self without problem. This can then start downloading other malware/virus software to your PC. I dont want to panic you/anyone but thats just how it is. Most people only have some or most of the information needed to protect themselves which in reality is not that safe/effective. There's no point putting bars and big locks on the doors and windows of your house, if your going to leave the backdoor wide open! Update OS Update Security software Scan

Hi All Manny thanks for the replies, sorry late in replying To be honest Drift I did think AVG updated it self, but will check that , Thanks That looks complicate to be honest, but will look into that tomorrow , thanks vauxsqueeks Robbie no it wasn't AVG that popped up it was something like a box with a warning just appeared on my screen Fogman I don't know if I have any anti spyware software on your lappy, but with that scan I won't doing it now, tomorrow, does it give you a load of things on your lappy and then to fix it you have to spend x number of ££'s to get rid of it please? Sorry can't do it now as I am tired, but will definitely look at it tomorrow with all your suggestions.. Many thanks for your help guys Cheers Roo

Roo, On that information then, I'm inclined to say you've got something unwelcome living on your PC as vaxsqueeks mentions. Make sure AVG is fully up to date, and get it to do a full scan of your system - this may take a while, mind. Also, as an addition to the software fogman recommends, I've used Spybot with pretty good success over the years, available free from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. Good luck

Hi Roo, If your at all unsure, I can suggest some specialist tools for finding nasties.. Http://getsusp.mcafee.comHttp://stinger.mcafee.comThe stinger is updated daily and is pretty effective against a lot of malware that is "very" new though it is targeted at specific threats. Getsusp will review all files for unknown and suspicious files.

And can it tell me in Pie or percentage pleased, I think I'll understand that Fogman that http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html I ran it last night and got 3 things detected so I took it back to 180 days and got 125 things detected, when it said , Quarantine 3 things were in there, I deleted them, hope that was right ? Cheers guys Roo

Hi Roo, Not sure what operating syetem you have, if the laptops fairly new then its probably Windows 7. You can change views here: Just go through the list until you find the one you like. If you have Windows XP then you can see free space in the list..

OK, so assuming this is a laptop.. you have 1 x hard disk which is 500GB in size, split into 2 logical drives of 250GB each. And that you have a DVD drive labeled E: or something else? Or do you have another drive that you plug into the pc via USB plug? Either way, you have loads of free space left. When it says (C) = 30 GB or less then you may need to do something. However, always backup your files to another disk/dvd regularly.. don't wait until its too late.

loads of space..can the your a woman, most blokes drives are full of nudie pictures..
good advice about backing up files reguarly. I copy all the pictures and important letters etc to disc every 6 months or so..just in case the machine goes walkabout or gets infected..
