Roo,

Am presuming you mean the M6 Toll, so as to avoid the worst of the traffic around the Birmingham / Walsall area??
If so, yes, you pay in each direction, and according to www.m6toll.co.uk it'll be £5.30 for your motor. Unless they use weekend pricing cos of the journeys being on Bank Holidays, then £4.80 each way.

Ooops, didn't see the bit about *how* to pay, heh
Yer, there's attended lanes where you will get change, or automated jobs, where the exact change in coins is needed, or a debit / cred it card.

On the subject of whether to or not, I'm inclined to take Drifty's view - use the toll, cos it's quite easy for the journey from the M54 down to Spaghetti to take over an hour more than what it should, due to traffic, especially on Bank Holiday's.

Simple enough modification to fit a switched bypass of the thermostat mate.
My V6 Cavalier used to get worryingly warm before the fans cut in, so I had a switch in one of the spare slots on the dash which switched the fans on whether the thermostat was open or not. Never got anything like as warm after that, even in slow traffic in the height of summer.
P'raps I should've done the same to my 2.2 as well, but in that case, I might not have bought the diesels, heh.

My 20l never over heated but it used to get so close to the red on hot days in traffic my buttocks made a ridge in the driver seat
