The reason the Frontera version has more power (before people ask :D ) is due to the fact they used the injectors and turbo off the 3.1 Trooper engine, along with a few other tweaks. Oh and they also dropped the aircon which all Troopers seem to have. If I were to swap out my turbo I would be hitting the same figures as the Frontera ... possibly more, possibly less as I have top mounted intercooler. Some say that the TMIC is more efficient as it is getting a direct flow from the scoop and its a compact deep unit as well meaning larger surfacr area. Also the pipe runs are as short as possible meaning less loss of induction. Also as the engine runs cool it gets little heat off the engine. Oh and I have lost the aircon along the way. Another thing that helps me is I am lighter than the Frontera LWB ... but not as light as the shorty :( .

I have already decieded if my 4JB1T dies I will be dropping a post 1995 manual gearboxed 4JG2 into it ... feel the power ... hear the roar :D

I have concluded a different view about the intercooler, I believe the front mounted intercooler is more efficient, due to the slam effect of air on the whole surface of the IC as opposed to the channel effect on the TMI (life would be boring if we all agreed :lol: ) I did not realise the injectors are the same as the 3.1 I thought the flow was different?, the pumps are not the same and the timings are different too, without digging through gigs of pdf's I have read this one.
The tweaks are subtle but effective to gain the power

I may be wrong about the injectors now. You have caused me doubt. Best way to confirm would be to check the Frontera 2.8 to the Monterey 3.1 on EPC. Will do that Sunday when I get back from collecting my new tyres and visited my mutha. I am fairly positive the Fuel pumps are identical. Both use the Bosch VE pump though there is a possibility Vauxhall used the 1995 Import Auto Mk.III Trooper fuel pump which had an electric timer (though I doubt it) You have to remember that the 2.8 and 3.1 used the exact same timing kit and the exact same method of setting it up (using a set of fish scales). I can adjust my timing depending on the pre-tension load I put on the timing adjuster as the load ranged between 10-12 Newtons. The higher the load the more advanced it was, so I can only assume this is what Vauxhall did.
