Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Cannot see the link at work, but I am reckoning is an Isuzu Rodeo ... Frontera B was the Vauxhall spin off. Can you post a picture of the front end?
Failing that it could just be a conversion. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Probably a conversion or misspelled in the ad.
The number plate is for a 2.2 1999 Frontera. I guess you would run into trouble at MOT with emissions testing an old 3.1 diesel engine to the standards of the more modern 2.2 in the B series?...
Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???The ad states that it was once a 2.2Dti, and it's definitely a VX not an Opel. So it's obviously a conversion.
A 3.1 td in a SWB B series sounds like fun to me. Uber torque
Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???the ad also states registered as a 2.2dti on the log book so that could mean confusion & therefore trouble i suspect ? ? ?

Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???I would of thought it would fly through the MOT. 3.1's would have naff all emissions when the EGR;s are blanked and running nicely. Don't forget the diesels aren't tested for CO and if you use my 2.8 as an example for the other tests my last MOT tester said it was one of the cleanest engines he has seen in a while ... especially for its age. The biggest issue would be insurance, but even though its a bigger engine I would think the power levels are about the same if not a bit less, therefore it may be cheaper. The only issue would be some insurance companies insist that a qualified professional has done or inspected the work.
Does sound like a promising conversion for the B Series. Even the petrol versions could be done just by swapping for a diesel fuel tank and using a rotten Monterey or Trooper for the rest. The only problems that I would foresee would be engine mounts (but you could mod the donor ones) and marrying it up to the gearbox. Electrics are simple as well. The 3.1 has no ECU (unless its a post 1995 automatic import which has an electric fuel pump). Its definatly worth looking into. Especially as Boxcleva says uber torque. DVLA don't care really so long as they have been told so they can update their records. Had to do the same when I converted from a N/A to turbo and automatic to manual in an old 300ZX of mine.
Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???I think if its still registered as a 2.2 dti, then I reckon who ever buys it could be in trouble with the rozzers if they got a spot check, especially when they run the reg through DVLA and it comes up as a 3.1 diesel. I would have liked to have seen a photo of under the bonnet.

Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Anyone asked the question obn ebay?
I know there is a garage in South Wales that retro fit new 4jb1 engines into Land Rovers and other 4x4 cars, even new 4x4's , the enjines as far as I know are new on licence from Japan so it is possible to do the conversion into a newer car as that garage would not carry out the work if they couldnt insure or MOT the oldr engines. I would be great to get the conversion details from that ebayer Ste

Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Its not a problem with the DVLA or insurance. I believe there is a section in the V5 that you fill out and return to the DVLA and they change their records and send you out a new V5. All the insurance companies will do is ask if its a power upgrade and was the work done by a qualified mechanic. MOT test will be done as normal. They don't care what it has so long as it passes the test, and diesels are less fussy than petrols.

Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Is there much difference in power output vs mpg between a LWB Frontie with the 3.1 Isuzu engine and a LWB 2.8TD Frontie?
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: 3.1TD Frontera ???Cant remember the exact figures but the 3.1 has a little more lower end torque but the 2.8 is a bit more sprightly top end, thought the 3.1 is a lot more thirstier on the fuel.
Remember though the Frontera 2.8tdi has about 15 or 16 more BHP than the Trooper 2.8td. Ste
