I'm running an I5 at the mo & its not too bad, but I was thinking, should I go for this badboy??! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-i7-975-Processor-3-33-Brand-New-/260713204663?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item3cb3b7cbb7Thats a hell of a processor, but is it worth that much?? It sort of depends on the rest of your setup, run some benchmarks and see if your CPU is your bottleneck, you can check your Windows Experience on your System page and see if your CPU is the lowest number on there.
Not much point buying the fastest CPU you can find if your motherboard or RAM is to slow to cope with it, thats like putting a huge turbo on an engine with a spark plug missing or a fuel pump top small to feed it.
Its the wifes until it breaks down.

Im currently running 8GB@1333mhz of RAM (Corsair Dominator), OCZ Z series 1000w PSU, Asus Rampage 2 mobo with Intel core i5 2.66ghz chip, Ati Radeon HD 4870x2 graphics card - two of them! so 4GB of dedicated gaming ram. This rig has taken me over 2 years to save up for & build, its my brainchild Windows experience all say 9.9, so I cant really go by that, I used Passmark & scored 9801.16, which is pretty good ( i think) I'll give aria pc a look & see what they've got. I just want more power!!! more power!!!

I use riva tuner & ati tool to OC my system, but it puts a strain on CPU's & extra cooling is needed as the run a bit hotter if OC'd too much. The GPU in my graphics card is already factory OC'd & 4GB of dedicated & 2GB of hyper memory - 6GB of gaming memory is enough I think, well its more than a PS3!! Here its specs from wiki: The PlayStation 3 uses the Sony, Toshiba, IBM-designed Cell microprocessor as its CPU, which is made up of one 3.2 GHz PowerPC-based "Power Processing Element" (PPE) and eight Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs).[52] The eighth SPE is disabled to improve chip yields.[53][54] Only six of the seven SPEs are accessible to developers as the seventh SPE is reserved by the console's operating system.[54] Graphics processing is handled by the NVIDIA RSX 'Reality Synthesizer', which can output resolutions from 480i/576i SD up to 1080p HD.[47] The PlayStation 3 has 256 MB of XDR DRAM main memory and 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory for the RSX.[55] Pretty poor when you compare it to a pc

thats a very good price for that cpu but the cpu you have is more than plenty for gaming and will be for years to come, you wont notice any difference in gaming,if you want too burn that sort of money i would look at changing your gpu's,thats where you will notice a difference in gaming, ive never been a fan of sli or crossfire because the performance increase you get does not match the money it costs, you would be far better off putting your money into one dogs nuts card.have a look here at some benchmarks http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.htmlbtw your passmark score is not good at all,i score 1564.7 and my system is old compared to yours, intel e8400 overclocked to 3.6 ghz,4 gig of kingston ddr2 1066 memory running at 920 mhz,xfx gtx 275 running at standard clock.

why do you need to overclock? fog wont run any better overclocking is for gamers and benchmark nerds you do have a good cpu for overclocking though depending on what memory you have and what motherboard you have,if you was to overclock it i would first buy a better cooler(ie zalman).you can easy hit 3.0ghz and be stable even on a stock cooler but i wouldnt recommend it,i would make sure your cooler and case is up for the job first so you dont cook your cpu, cant say for sure because i dont know what motherboard and ram you have but if you clock it to 7x 429mhz fsb that would put you at 3.0 ghz(well 3.003 to be precise).if i remember right you have a pc world jobby pc so the chances are you have a naf motherboard that will be locked so you cant overclock your fsb or change the multiplier

I thought my passmark was pretty good at 9801.16, its like 8236.4 more than your older pc. I think i'm going to opt for this at the moment : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300507735361&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITA six core which can OC to about 20GHz

ah sorry read it wrong, your system is very good and theres no game out there it cant run maxed out better gpu or gpu's will give you much better fps in games though thats looks a cheap deal but watch out for import tax, never bought from the states but im sure a few on fog have, your system is damn good anyway so why change mb/cpu? theres no game that needs those speeds and when there is you will be changing mb/cpu again 20ghz though ps do you use 3dmark? would like see your 3dmark scores

I'll have a crack at 3d mark tonight the price on my ebay account is all i pay, i've never paid any different than the figure stated so i'm guessing it includes all taxes, etc 20 GHz would be a beast

your cpu is fine for the latests games so i wouldnt even think about overclocking it,what graphics card do you have? as this is the major factor for gaming.minimum spec for cod black ops is intel core 2 duo e6600 and 2 gig of memory so your above that spec,it says it will run on 256mb nvidia 8600gt but to be honest its going to struggle with that,if you want it to be a better gaming pc then i would look at a nvidia gtx 260 or up depending on how much you want to spend,i wouldnt get anything lower than gtx 260 though

Your laptop only has 512mb of dedicated memory & the rest: upto 1791mb is shared with the system memory. The only way on a laptop is to either increase the paging file size to about 4096mb & run nVidia n-tune utility or a new graphics card, but they can be £££'s What OS are you running???
