Right went to fly my new kite at burton today, (man the place was rammed) and decided to take the dog for a walk to see if the lane exists from northed up onto the hills................and indeed it does people. So you can drive up at least this part of burton legally. Here is the evidence.

Looking down from the road between the to west side car parks, is the gate to the lane.

Most 'boggy' part of the lane off the hills

Gate to the lane, just kept closed with some twine

Lane beyond gate, surface is loose rock and mud

Decending into the village. Pub straight ahead at the bottom :D

Finally heres the proof

I didn't drive it in the end due to the number of people on the hills at the time (honestly i have never seen it so busy) also the park ranger was around. Although I would of been perfectly legal to do so, with the current bad press 4x4's are having I didn't want to add fuel to the fire as it were, especially as a lot of people are not aware of 'greenlanes' are there being no singage on the hill side to indicate it as a right of way.

For anyone not familiar with burton dasset the gradient of the hills is steep. In my opinion the lane would be perfectaly driveable in a decent by any 4x4 with a good set of even road bias tyres, due gravty being on your side, i doubt you could get stuck. However coming back up from the village end is a different kettle of fish I would certainly recommend a set of muddies or at least decent A/T's to get up it at this time of year.
