hi looking for advice for my luch loved fronty

Hi Ive registered for the FOG as I ahve had mine for over three years, love ti to bits but my other half HATES it (sadly hes a very good technician but really really hates old cars... so he is hoping its going to die soon so I get something newer. trouble is despite being (ecomonically) written off after an idiot rallied into me in the snow in January, its still going strong... it does need a mid section exhaust but everything else works fine. Oh aart from the rear passenger door handle which aforesaid other half pulled off about 2 years ago and has never fixed. minly due to the fact the childlock was accidentally on so we cant open the door from inside or out now and its going to be a pain to try and get the door card off... My question is, is it worth keeping on the road like I think, or should I let it gradually fall apart as "its not worth spening money on" as my other half thinks? its the 2.5 diesel LWB, it had done 57k when i bought it july 2007 and now has 93k on it. its never once thoguht about not starting, ive put a battery, a set of tyres and two sets of brake pads on it since i bought it. Which i think is pretty good motoring. it pulls my horse box, ive picked up everything from a full size bath (with the door shut properly) bricks, endless bags of horsefood and my kids and dogs, with never a hassle. I am told that there arent enough parts available for them any more to try and keep it going...... It could do with at least one brake caliper, and ideally discs but nothing desperate yet. Certainly nothing too scarey. and if it was allowed to die I would want another one. or a landcruiser which will obviously cost a fortune, and would be ANOTHEER old car for my other half to moan about. ta ever so for any advice or comments re availability of parts etc. seems daft to me not to keep such a reliable and useful car?

I would definitely keep it on the road. Pads and discs won't cost much and a caliper won't either. Although some parts are getting harder to get hold of, most of the day to day is easily available.

When serviced regularly they are mostly reliable. Discs, pads, tires and the like are normal wear and tear items and will need replacing on any car at some point in its life.

I have a spares Frontera that has 2 stuck rear doors. Il be doing a writeup soon on how to unjam them without removing the door cards. Keep an eye out.

Tell the old man the truck comes first if he dont like it show him the garden shed, if that dont work tell him you'll love him forever if he keeps it on the road for you!!!! AND if that dont work tell him to cook his own meals from now on!!!!!!

Keep the frontera, especially if you use it as a bit of a work horse, A friend of mine got rid of a old jap 4x4 and replaced it with a 2007 freelander That has broken down more times then we can count headgasket has just gone, These newer 4x4's dont seem as reliable as the older ones, stick with the old frontera

fix it your self everything you need or to know you will find on here, if your selling it sell it here if your breaking it do it here. every one here use thiers for diffrent reasons an use the site for diffrent reasons aswell. Its a good truck just some wee simple issue fixed an its whats good for you not others end of the day you got to drive what ever it is he get next. plus winter is coming an scotlands been threatend with snow by end of week so i will be ok . Come winter you will be glad to have it an if you sell it you will regret it
