Helo and a 2.2 Buyers guide?

Hi

I have come along here as I am in the market for a 4x4 for work. The Frontera seems to tick most boxes and I am looking at the 2.2 TD.

Is there a handy 'Buyers Guide' anyone can point me to? I did try the search function but nothing popped up immediately obvious.

What common faults can I expects (quick fixes are not a problem but imminent and expensive deaths I want to avoid!) and what things could I look for when I see a vehicle?

The 2.2dti is known for chucking fuel pumps.And they are very costly to replace.Also make sure the speedo clocks work,as the B series is also known for them to malfunction aswell.

Thanks for the prompt reply - as long as they are not in the same order of magnitude as Freelanders and their head gaskets.

Oh...! What about auto-gearboxes? Issues? Life expectancy?

Autobox does not seem to be ideally matched to the engine which is a bit strange as the gearbox ECU should sort things but as with all things forum we only get to hear the bad points & that has to be tempered against the many that are never heard of,same goes for the fuel pump issues,however if they are run on clean forecourt diesel & not allowed to run out they are very reliable particularly on the non facelift model
