Casting a different view on Ste's 50m problem
We have
1 PC
2 Laptops
1 PSP
1 Wii
1 Xbox
2 Mobile Phones
2 VOIP Telephones
1 BT Vision
1 BT FON public access point

Just powered everything up and look how much bandwidth I have spare (wasted?) from an 8meg line during peek period
Image.
Mine you I have set everything up properly by porting and bandwidth allocation.

Wonder how much waste everyone else has :?:

Hmmmm. Maybe time to downgrade my line rather than waste my money on unrequired bandwidth. But then I do only pay £31.50 per quarter for my broadband, line rental, free technical help 24/7, free McAfee antivirus, free landline calls 24/7, unlimited downloads & unlimited BT Fon (Google it).
Amazing what BT will give you when you whrn they phone to renew your 12 month contract and you mention Sky Broadband to them

Umm.. it's probably worth pointing out that most people very rarely get anywhere near the speed their providers claim they are getting, especially at peak times when your connection is being shared out with several other people at the local exchange.

Not to mention the fact that the speed you can download a webpage is more dependant on the quality of the connection on the server hosting the website you're looking at.

Of course our phone system would have been much more advanced by now had BT not shafted Marconi over a planned upgrade of the national backbone systems, not that I'm an embittered ex Marconi employee or anything.... :x
