Laptop external monitor

Laptop external monitor

Postby Drift on Fri Dec 04, 2009 9:45 pm

OK hear goes, I am working on setting up a new old laptop to operate memory map in the car (but removable) the last one died as I got it working just before its first outing it lost its HD.
So this one I want to use and external monitor on the dash and secure the laptop else where so it wont bounce about.
I have a twin monitor DVD in the posh car (hers) so as one kid is 15 years its not so important to have two screens as long as the youngest 4 years can watch something.
Can that monitor fit into the laptop?
Will I need new leads?

I would check but Ive left them at my Mums 80 miles away

I would be inclined to agree with davek.

A small monitor, say 7" would provide far superior quality to using the tv out on a laptop/pc.
Its definitely possible, I saw one some time back which replaced the sun visor, worked with reversing camera's, dvd players etc but more importantly it had a VGA connector for a pc. Think it was about 100quid though.

Depending on what inputs are available on the dvd screens you have and whether or not the laptop has a tv out there is no reason why it shouldnt work. Give it a go.

Eeek ermm I think the screens are 7", they both plug into the separate dvd unit, so was thinking I could use one to the laptop?
Would it need a separate power supply?

Proper simpleton with this stuff so go easy

Yeah all you need is a monitor with a vga input obviously up to you how big you want it, also have you used your laptop on an external monitor before? normally case of just connecting the 2 via vga lead and using the apropiate keyboard shortcut key. Another thing to be aware of is that you may need USB keyboard as SOME laptops when plugged into external monitor and you open the lid it'll autmatically cut the output back to the laptop screen.
