Postby Krusher on Sun Oct 25, 2009 11:14 pm

Hi all

Well what can I say? What a fantastic and adventerous day. Lots of sliding, slipping and getting stuck with a good solid helping of carnagr thrown in for good measure. Its a totally different course now in the woods after all the recent rain and now fallen leaves, a true test for even the most experienced off roader.
I managed to get myself well and truly stuck requireing the assistance of our now southerly based BBB and Jim dragging me out of my predicament, cheers mate!

Big thanks to Greg and Sal for the organisation and top notch BBQ also all the Foggers that came probably the best turn out yet!

Anyway here are the pickies and clips that I got, not too many I'm afraid as was far to busy enjoying myself.

The usual meeting spot....

Then a short trip to the woods....

Gregs and Sals shorties...

And some of the rest.....

Jim with his final humiliation, well and truly stuck fast and taking the efforts of very nearly all of us to get him out...

And me going nowhere...

Well thats it from me.....

Aye, and I got royally, well and truly stuck, hehe... So much so that the services of 2 cars, a hi-lift jack, and best of all a chainsaw  were needed to extract Holly. There's gonnae be a piccie up in greg's "carnage" thread as soon as I can get a pic in daylight, of the slightly dented O/S sill

Aside from that, it was a blinding day, good turnout, and a cracking BBQ sorted by Greg & Sal, so 3 cheers for them
Saving grace, I did use Holly to extract a very stuck Krusher, so good karma to balance out the rescue later on, hehe

Mighty thanks to Greg and Sal for arranging todays picnic. Blinding day with challenging areas newly created in the newer of the two bomb holes.

Monday night amends - can stay awake now so I'm adding a few more captions.

First run through is Jim on the loose virgin soil on top of the steep, deep trenches.

Image
Then Greg's turn
Image
Image
Image
Don't know if this pic gives the perspective, but the trench through the middle really put the cat among the pigeons

Steve's first day at the site in his 90
Image
Marks run through bomb ally
Image
My undercarriage damage after I lauched myself over the top and forgot all about the hole on the descent.
Light damange and nothing to serious that can't be repaired, but it did hurt when I landed
Image
Don't know about Krushers revenge, this is the rabbit's revenge with Kel getting stuck on the rabbit warren run
Image
Got to mention it (how sad), but my £3 piece of fleabay rope coming into play
Image
Image
John doing his maiden tour of the site - glad you enjoyed it mate
Image
Paul sizing up the new entrenched bomb hole
Image
Couldn't let this one go unnoticed or not documented - Greg stuck on the hill in amongst the logs - take note Jimbo
Image
Image
Image
Kel's turn to play the good guy with the pulling power
Image
Image
Greg doing his tripod/see-saw impersonation with his little white Fronty
Image
Image
You didn't take note did you Jimbo
Image
Image
Jimbo trying hard to get off Trugga's christmas card list
Image
And finally the destruction derby team playing. They took the site extremities to the limit (the rest of us wanted to get our cars home in one piece). They had a ball but I reckon the remains of the motors will be back another day only a bit lighter.

Re: SE picnic in the woods...Sunday 25/10/09 REVIEW

Postby gregster on Mon Oct 26, 2009 12:16 am

Right...photobucket has finally finished its fing....

Blinding day today, great turnout of foggers, plus Petes mate, and 2 of the landowners employees (who did fantastic job of demolishing their rangerovers...quality entertainment for everyone watching!)

Met up at Notcutts, I was a bit late as dived up the workshop to grab my dumper tyres en route...

Sal was there to greet everyone in her purple glitter ball 2.8tdi...

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Regrouped on the way to the site to wait for the others that came up the byway...we couldnt this time as didnt want to scratch Sals car, and I had my little trailer on the back with my tyres in it, so we went the road way...
Image
Image

We all assembled in the clearing for group photos and team briefing....
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Lloyd and louis, the lads who work for the landowner...there cars did not look anything like this at the end of the day!
Image

Then up to the bomb hole that Lloyd and I attacked with the digger the other day
Jim went first (brave or stupid?) valient attempt got stuck on the exit (but it hadnt been driven so the loose stuff was piled really high)
Image
Image
Image
Image

Then pedro had a go...gave his 2.8 some stick and made it through...got a bit of air...then nose dived it straight into the next hole that we had cunningly dug...he knew it was there-he'd been standing in it...but kinda forgot...15-0mph in 0.0001 seconds...bent bullbar, and seat belt bruising I reckon!
Image
Image

Lloyd had a go in his bobtail rangey...his carnage began at this point and finshed when he left!
Image

Then I had a go...it started well, but then I got it wedged in the bottom of one of the holes...a bit of bumper carnage ensued, and the first mud filled tailpipe of the day! Had to get recovered out by wilberforce...
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Peters mate Steve had a go in his 90...
Image

Lloyd doing the really tight V notch...
Image

Mark having a go...did the same nose stand as Pedro...
Image

Lloyd driving one of the other V notches we cut...proper challenging...but the right line makes it easy...this is the wrong line!
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

Jim taking a different route round the top of the new obsticles...
Image
Image

The FOG-B-Q....worked alright....discovered I am no good at catering for large groups...thanks to Mel and Jim for saving the day or we would have all starved or been poisened!!
Image

And finally....me stuck....the same place that Jim got stuck later, only that tree you can see behind my car was wedged under his, with his rear diff on a tree stump, and the front end in the shrubbery!!! Was a bit of a mission to get out...mine was easier to extract with a tow from da Krusher!
Image
Image
Image
Image

Jims however took much more effort! Tried shifting the lwb sideways using a highlift, but diff was on a stump, couldnt get to cut the tree out from underneath as it was tight against the radius arm, jacked the osr wheel with a highlift, rammed logs under it, to lift the car a bit and clear the diff, Killed the chainsaw chain, cutting flinty soil and tree from under the car, then with 2 tow cars attached, one to the front, one to the NS rear radius arm mount, so the car could be dragged kinda diagonally to stop the tree which was inches off the rear quarter trashing the rear of the car, finally jims bus moved up the hill, then reattach with a single tow to the front to straighten it up and it was eventually extracted!
This is what happens when you are going for one last go....

I reckon I got stuck more than Badboy today but I did try some silly things with the wrong tyres!!! Saying that got him a beauty...he went into the big bomb hole at the top, only to find when it was too late that we had been in there with the digger!!!! (He should read my posts about progress up the site...he would have known then  )

Blinding day, nice to meet Jammywagonwheel and family at their first FOG gathering...John is probably browsing the net looking for muddies as we speak...his all terrains struggled with the mud on his first offroading trip in the fronty, but he drove fantastically with a bit of help from some better tyres more suited to the conditions and went everywhere we did (dumper tyres  )...

Thanks to everyone who came...you made it a brilliant day...Sal and I really enjoyed it, my bbq worked, my white leafer got some more "character", we witnessed hilarious rangey carnage, (I will be having words about SPEED though....)...I slipped over flat on my back in the mud (Jims fault!)...got to do some fronty acrobatics...

Excellent...cant wait for the next one...see you all soon and thanks again for your support...

Fantastic 8)

Pink wellies to

I reckon there is a good point for a LWB bobbed Frontera, as the SWB cross axle and less in the LWB but the LWB fat arse catches it out, add an LSD fun.

Anyway I digress, for the first time Im jealous of being this far North :oh yer:

Like the thinking...would have to be a coiler though or you would have nowhere to attach the rear spring hangers!!

Hi Everyone,
Can I first say a great big thank you from Myself, Mel, Cathrine (Cat) and Chrissy for a fantastic day out!

We were made to feel increadably welcome by a very friendly group, We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and will most certainly be back - And Gregster is right.. I've already EBAYed muddies - oops! Heading to my local friendly scrappies for a set of steel rims at the weekend...

Greg - Your a diamond for lending me the tyres, I would never have believed that a 15 year old Frontera in bog standard trim (at the moment - watch this space - but DONT TELL MEL, she'll kill me! :axe: ) could be so capable off road, OK, my tow bar electrics got mangled (bomb crater bit too quick) - and the passenger front wing had some good news (small bit of character, but it will tap out) apart from that the old beastie didnt miss a beat, or get stuck - - hee hee!

Have some great Vids and pics - I'll post them up tomorrow - when I remember to bring my camera to work :oh yer: .

It was great to meet you all, and hope to see you all soon.

John & Tribe

ps - did anyone manage to get a picture of a tree that wasnt intimate with a Range Rover, If so can you post it?
You cant polish a t*rd..
But you can roll it in glitter

if its broken - fix it
if it isnt - mod it!

Glad you enjoyed John and co....

Thanks again for the shackles, got a feeling they will be coming in really handy in the winter up the woods, or if (when  ) we get crazy with the digger again...

Regarding tree moments and rangerovers, I will try and get a pickie and post it of the tree they didnt hit!!

Still laughing at Louis rangerover...I have never seen so many dashboard warning lights up on a car that still driving....
did you see how full his boot was with all the bits he knocked off or fell off that he picked up!!

Just goes to show how capable our little fronties are (and their drivers!)...

Cracking day...glad you made it up to meet everyone and have a play...see you all at the next one!

Looking forwards to seeing your pickies and vids...

Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again...
She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body...
Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer!
