*LimeWire*

Postby Roo on Mon Aug 24, 2009 2:58 pm

Hi All :D

My Daughter has a new I Pod from her Dad, he has put some music on there for her, but not all of is to her taste and wants to down load her taste in music using her LIMEWIRE, she had the 08 version, which worked fine, anyway she had an update for LimeWire09, she's downloaded that version and now it doesn't work

What has gone wrong please? any suggestions to fix her problem would be most welcoming

Many Thanks
Roo & Darling Daughter

Would you like the helpful advice or the long rant that normally happens when a friend asks me why things don't work with Limewire?

The useful version is to get rid of Limewire, including the store and all the other things it installs when you download it and never visit the site again. The thing is riddled with spyware, adwar and just about anything else they can get to install without people noticing.

Best bet is to try http://www.zeropaid.com/kazaalite/ instead 8)

definately definately just get rid of it! uninstallit and all the associated programs it brings with it!

you will probarbly have some spyware on your pc from it anyway so make sure you do a full system scan.

after that you have two options.

paid for mp3's or unpaid for- the latter's legal status being rather dubious.

I had heard that "limewire" was pretty unreliable,
doesn't full fill its alleged promises,
cannot be trusted,
suffers from intermittent communication problems,
and will leave you out of pocket in the long run...

But maybe that was "livewire" not limewire.......I get confused easily!!......

At the end of the day, Bittorrent is a perfectly legal piece of software that is very efficient in moving large files around the internet, its the content of the files you move that can cause problems

The BBC iplayer originally used bittorrent to distribute its files

BitLord suffers from the same issues as Limewire, try uTorrent instead, much thinner client and better download speeds, also supports newer networking protocols out of the box instead of having to pay for them ;)

Ahem Newsgroups, binaries, they are off the radar so far. There are bought options or free news readers out there.

iam with alex on this one i use grabit and down load every thing from a very good site nzb-magic

not my work ive taken this from the above site i hope it explains how it all works the click here links are dead :D

The first thing you’ll need is an account with a News Group provider,You can sign up for a News Provider HERE.

Once you’ve signed up, make a note of the following details:

1. Username and password (Should be emailed to you after sign up)
2. News group server details will also be emailed.
Install a News Reader

In order to download a binary files from the News Servers you’ll need to download NZB files, these files tell your news reader which posts to download, and how to put it all back together again at the end.

There are some readers you can pay for, however as a basic reader I would suggest GrabIt, you can download GrabIt HERE.

Once you’ve installed GrabIt it will handle any .nzb files you download.

You need to set up GrabIt to use your premium news group server. In order to do this run GrabIt and right click on “My GrabIt” then choose “Add Server”.

Give the Server a Profile name if you wish and enter the server you noted previously under “hostname” and your news group username and password which they will email to you in the appropriate boxes. All other settings can be pretty much left as default. You might want to change the number of connections later depending on your internet connection and the package yuo venetually sign up for from news provider.
Finding and Downloading NZB Files

Just like Torrents you have to download a small file called an NZB, you can find NZBs files on various NZB indexing sites such as http://nzb-magic.com

Once you’ve searched on one of these sites and located the NZB you want you need to download it, GrabIt should be set to handle any files with the .nzb file extension and should therefore open it.

If not, save the .nzb and then import it into GrabIt. When the “Import Batch File” window appears click “Grab” and the download will start.

You’ll now see all the posts that make up the batch and you can see the progress as GrabIt downloads them.

Once they’re all downloaded GrabIt willl most likely take care of any extracting or repairing. By default any files downloaded will be saved to a folder called “GrabIt Downloads” in your “My Documents” folder.

Sounds complex, but broken down its not.

You can get pay for ones with an explorer type interface, but thats paying for stuff.
