Evening All.Hi, just a quick introduction from me. I am Ian and live in Cramlington in Northumberland. Always been a fan of off roading and the like but only recently considered getting involved myself.
Having had a look around online i am almost 100% sure i fancy a frontera. Havent decided on SWB or LWB so any input from you guys would be appreciated. The car would have to be capable of managing the daily hack as well so wont be looking for anything too hard core. Oh, and dont really want to be spending a lot of money on this straight away. Maybe i am asking to much. Maybe not. Well that's all for now. Ian

Re: Evening All.Hi and welcome along
You have made the right choice. There will be plenty of pros and cons between the long and short wheel base, and it's down to personal preference. The shorty is more manoeuvrable in some ways, but often lacks some of the grunt of the longer ones. I have a shorty, and mine manages 30 miles round trip each day to work no problem. Frontys don't cost huge amounts (normally) up front, and most of the modifications are very reasonable in price ... however, it will cost you in man hours, as they become very addictive, very fast! Hope that helps Jay

Re: Evening All.Welcome aboard,
get right into the forum and have a looksee around the various sections. But remember all the problems / faults are due to the fronty being quite an old car now, so if you get one expect a few wear problems. The fronty is a fairly easy machine to work on and FOG will help you no end should you get stuck. (I like the word looksee, i've just (re-)invented it! it means look around/search/seek/read and enjoy all rolled into one) The greatest lesson in life is to know that even us idiots are right sometimes

Re: Evening All.Hi there welcome to fog.I am very pleased with the 2.3lwb I bought two and a half yrs ago.I knew nothing about fronteras but loved the look of them.It is my first 4x4.Mine is good on fuel about 35mpg solo round town more on a long run.I use it daily, I am a blacksmith so its very practical. Its not good up hills. The problems I've had have mostly been hoses giving up,apart from that ive just put oil and fuel in and flushed the heating system and driven around in it enjoying it enormously. Had I done research I possibly would have got a 2.8 but its done me well and I put the mpg first.I changed the back door(not to be undertaken lightly) as I couldn't bear hauling that huge swing arm spare wheel carrier around any longer.Happy hunting!

Re: Evening All.Thanks for the extremely warm welcome. Seems like a friendly place.
So, I've spent the last day and a bit browsing the forum and have decided I want a LWB. The extra space is a major selling point for me. Now all i have to do is find some money to get the ball rolling. Until then I will be appearing with plenty of questions. Hope you don't mind. ![]()

Re: Evening All.Exciting stuff he's going for a lwb
Some more thoughts...Are you going to be towing a lot? Is it going to be mostly just you driving?Do you have lots of hills where you live? I guess that if you can, it would be good to test drive as many as you can.I have only ever driven one and thats mine I didnt compere it with another, which would have been sensible. Keep us poated and if I have said anything incorrect then I hope someone will say so.
Re: Evening All.Your right Jmc tis very exciting gettin a Fronty I know how excited I was getting my Sport
Good Luck getting the fronty you want.... She is out there ![]()
Re: Evening All.thanks for the advice JMC and here are your answers.
Towing... for the time being i can't see myself towing anything. Firstly as i would need to take the test and secondly, apart from the girlfriends horse trailer, there is nothing I have that would require towing. Driving... Yes, it will be just me driving. Want all the enjoyment for myself! Hills... There are a lot nearby. Plenty of countryside in Northumberland but none in the immediate areas surrounding where i live. I think that is everything covered and I will remember what you have said when i begin the hunt for one. Need to shift my vectra first For now I will just keep looking at everyones pictures growing increasingly sad/inspired Ian
