Re: strange problem with laptopOk, daft suggestion time here. Go down to Maplin (or similar) and get yourself a can of "Air Duster" (a.k.a. compressed air), and give the ports a good blast out - see how much dust is in there. I have known dust to make machines run slow in the past. Should only cost you a fiver, so nothing to lose at this point

Re: strange problem with laptopOk, the saga continues.
All attemps so far have not produced the desired result, laptop running at normal speed whilst plugged in to charger. Something that I have also noticed if it helps anyone with some more ideas is that when the lappy is powered up on the charger, the charger will get very hot. Whilst the lappy is being charged and powered down the charger will stay cool. Also if it has been left to charge up and say has 50% charge then is powered up on the charger, then the laptop will slowly lose charge even though it is plugged in. Confused.com Ramsgate, Kent

Re: strange problem with laptopCould be the battery on the way out... Modern Lithium batteries are killed by heat.
Re: strange problem with laptopHot PSU is relatively normal if using the laptop and charging the battery at the same time, on account that it has to do twice the work, however with it losing charge while you are using it on the charger, then once again it does point towards the battery as it is draining the available resource for the laptop to run, hence the slowdown.

Re: strange problem with laptopProblem solved Bought another charger from fleabay and the lappy is back to its old self again
Thanks guys for all your help and advice. The thing that really pointed me in the direction of the charger was the fact that with battery removed it still ran very slowly. Still got there in the end eh! Ramsgate, Kent
