Today I have mostly been removing the side steps and rear light guards from my Frontera . Just out of interest , are there any easy jobs on Fronteras that do not develop into something far more complicated ?

Well I finally started working on the Rover to get it ready to get me up to Bala!

First things first and I put the battery on charge.
This, rather fortuitously, gave me better access to the speed sensor which needed looking at due to a lack of indication in the cabin. I think I found the problem. Someone has sliced a new connector into the loom using a choc block! No tape or anything to keep the elements out. Just gotta hope that the cruise control circuit isn't hasn't been damaged too :axe:

Next it was onto the temp sender. Again doesn't seem to be any indication in the cabin. Tried to earth it off against the block but nothing happened. Then remembered that the ignition wasn't on............... Then remembered the battery was on charge

My last job of the day was to take off the aux drive belt. This had been damaged due to being incorrectly fitted. It was out by an entire grove and had been rubbing on the block causing some smoke and a horrible smell.

Wont be able to play now till Tuesday, but at least I've made a start :D
If you're sat there thinking things just can't get any worse, just wait......

Yes they are Shogun alloys, they look good and its handy to know they fit over the calipers and front hubs.

Hiya...the issue of fitting over the hubs I have not found to be an problem ever as fronties have a smaller hub that all other jap 6 stud 4x4's. Nissan, toyota, isuzu, mitsubishi, wheels will all fit over the hubs...
the issue being the standard fronty alloy wheels which will not fit yotas or nissans as the hole in the centre of the wheel is not big enough to fit over their hubs. Toyota wheels (off hilux or landcruiser which have much larger calipers) fit fronties fine, nissan wheels can be troublesome if they are the ones with very little offset found on some patrols, d21's and cabstars but they are horrible anyway so I can't see anyone wanting to fit them. They look like a weller 8 spoke, but the mounting face is almost on the outside of the rim, and the centre section of wheel is almost flat to look at. These will foul calipers on some models.
Nissan terrano wheels do fit (there was a set on my chevy/isuzu/brava when I got it) but they do need small shims for caliper clearance and special wheel nuts.
Hope this helps foggers...

What did I do in my truck today.....
Drove 350 mile round trip up to norwich to pick up a truckman top for my chevy/isuzu/brava...
which i then found to be different to a brava one....! :axe:
the bed on the chevy is about 6" longer so have had to "mod" the top to fit...
has worked out ok really, as normally the top fits over the metal frame at the front of the bed and fit snuggly between that and the cab...
however I have modded it so it now sits behind the frame and it fits fine.
Good news is it will make removal/refitting a lot easier as it now slides straight on the back and doesnt have to lifted 5ft in the air over the frame- something which would be a real issue when the truck gets lifted some more.
The seller also knocked £20 of the price as I had to mess about with it to make it fit...result

Then drove about 3/4hr to deliver a hydraulic breaker unit to someone who bought it off ebay b4 Christmas and couldnt get down to collect ...and got my diesel money for the whole trip.
Swapped also a set of nissan patrol taillights he wanted for a nice set of 8x15 deep dish alloys off his patrol which will probably go nicely on sals purple fronty.

Then drove back, with the obligitary stop at Makkydees for some nose bag....
the 2.8td never missed a beat but the old truck is so low geared that 65mph is all that can be managed at 3200rpm...any faster she is screaming..when I get it lifted a bit more a set of 33's will help a bit!(might have to fo 35's yet!!)
Arrived near home, stopped and filled the truck up again.....
finally got home and realised I had lost my wallet!!
Searched the truck...searched the petrol station but no joy....gutted lost the £20 i had saved on the truckman top and the £60 fuel money and £20 that was in my wallet anyway and all my credit cards, fuel cards, driving licence etc.

Then spent next hour phoning banks, credit card companies, police etc etc

Gutted :( :(

But the truckman top looks good, the truck ran great on its first long run and the wheels I got are a right result...
dont suppose my wallet will get handed in as the £80ish that was in it would be too much temptation...had it just had cards I might have been more lucky.

Tomorrow will hopefully be a better day :D

just swapped a few mods over from the 2.l swb onto the 2.8 swb including wheels etc seems to be a better offset on the 2.8 ??? i presume the axles are longer so the wheels come further out from the arches!! if i ever work out how to successively post pics i'll put some up when swapped winch etc!

i had a problem in fitting the electric fan, the water pump pulley sticks out to far, bu on closer inspection, there is a lot of play in the water pump, so i might as well whip it of and inspect it more, yes the bearing has gone and the pump is knacked, but the new pump will have the same problem of the pulley sticking out to far,
question, has is the pulley kept on the pump, :?:

Wotcha
Today fitted my truckman top "properly" and changed the wheels,
Then drove it over the fields at my mates farm to see if the roof would fall off...which it didnt,
Ended up at another mates farm where they were lambing, so went home and got sally, wound her up by telling her that we were going to look at another 4x4 (she was not impressed) but took her up the farminstead so she was really suprised when greeted by loads of newborn lambs. So cute...some of them only 1/2 hr old...
In sally's good books again!!
Washed and polished sals purple fronty when we got back... :axe: (she's washed it ONCE since I repainted it over a year ago! It gets washed every week without fail...guess who does it!)
