Got in from work at 1730, took my wheel bearing out and repacked and retightened it ( was loose :? ) refitted by 1800 then remembered the fan belt was loose and squeezing.... snapped tensioner  rooted and rooted and found a bolt but had the wrong thread, so forced it into the tensioner block, took a while and jobs a good 8)

Took the front brakes apart on someone else's sport and found them stuck solid and the brake friction material had disintegrated. New pads on order and calipers are now sliding and moving freely.

All with the aid of a large hammer and chisel and a lump hammer ;-)

Now have a rather large hole in the wing.
This is one of them 2 minute jobs that turns into an epic adventure.

Got the fuel tank and guard back in place and adjusted the handbrake. Think I will need to replace the handbrake shoes sooner then later.

New tank straps fitted, home-made from a length of bright mild steel. 20mm x 3mm. bent at the ends and drilled to accept new bolts. Substantially stronger then the original fitments.

On another note, if you look at the tank guard you will see that it is ribbed in the base, this adds strength but it is also a trap for water and mud as the tank sits flat on the raised sections.
When I took the old guard down it had more rust and corrosion on the raised ribs then the sunken ones. My feelings on this are that it traps water and mud and speeds the deterioration of the tank. I put 4 rods of copper about 8mm thick in the base running widthways across the tank guard with the intention of lifting the tank slightly above the guard to allow water and muck to escape through the large drain holes at the bottom. Fingers crossed this will aid in the preservation of the tank guard as water wont get trapped between the guard and the tank.

Fiddled with the towbar electrics and got all my trailer lights working properly again. Turned out the scotch lock connectors were all corroded as well as the earth wire. All stripped down and wired up again with connector blocks now.

Pic of the guard hammerited with the new straps. I forgot to take one of the rods across the bottom of the guard.

Didnt realise you had you tank off, might've been a good time to chop the tank guard and lift the whole tank an inch or so.

All in good time Alex. It will be quick enough next time round as I replaced all the hose clips, the old ones were a bugger to get off as the screws had rusted, even though the bands are stainless steel.

Hardest part was balancing it on the jack with one foot while it was half full and trying to get the fuel lines back on
