Did my first pay & play yesterday !

Harbour Hill in Aldermaston, Berkshire. I'v enever been to anything like this before and was very pleasantly surprised by the number of people there (quite a lot) and the general atmosphere (very happy and friendly). Inevitably mostly Defenders & Range Rovers, but also a bunch of Suzukis, a couple of Cherokees and proper Willys Jeep. I was the only Frontera !

My car is a '99 3.2 LWB and although it coped fine for the most part I had loads of trouble with it grounding out in the centre - there's a very inconsiderately placed crossmember there. We got beached a few times but managed to get ourselves out all but once. That time a passing Suzuki gave us a pull. Oh, the shame !!! The front numberplate is still MIA and the rear numberplate is also quite bent. Oops. Otherwise no damage.

I had a great time though, so I'm now torn between spending some money making the car more capable (bearing in mind it needs to be a road car too), or selling it to buy a normal estate car and an early SWB Fronty that I don't mind battering a bit !

Biggest smile of the day - seeing a S1 Landy stuck at a fairly extreme angle going into a puddle, driver climbing out in quite a hurry and exclaiming "it's filling up with f**king water !"

Thats part of the chassis and forms part of the underbody protection! Ud be more sorry if it wasent there i assure you.

However glad you had a good time, u soon see how capable these cars are in the muddy stuff, if a little lacking in overall ground clearance.

Speaking of cross memebers and such, while i was having some alone time away from the forum. Well to keep it short, i was in the city, couldnt be botherd queing so went over a kerb. What ever sits just behind the front wheels went smashing against the kerb. Everyone was looking but i couldnt see no oil coming out so i kept going.

What did i own? (apart from the kerb)

What ever i hit, its not that badly damaged but the two bolts that point down are a tad scuffed.

Turbo - yeah, I realise it's there for a reason, it just seems like rather bad planning to have something hanging down below the chassis rails *right* in the middle of the car ! The only time I had traction problems was when this thing grounded out and took some of the weight off the wheels. They're only skinny little 205R16s.

Fuzion - yep, that's the one.

Preid - if nothing's fallen off and nothing's leaking, I wouldn't worry too much
