18 November Derbyshire I will be going laning with a guy from CRAG who lives by me, he has a nearlt standard Nissan Terrono.

We have one place spare possibly two places.

If you would like to go get your name down.

You dont have to be a member of CRAG its just a trip out.

Might make it two groups, will see when he emails me he full route he has planned, from what I understand it should be ok for standard vehicals.

Driftwood I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here but I’m quite familiar with the lanes around this area.

Stanedge edge – if open, is a really must do and suitable for all with care, although you often get abuse from the walking fraternity. Just ignore then as they know no better as this is an old roman road.
Don’t forget to stop at the top for the views

Burbage Moor –solid ground for most of it again suitable for beginners

Chapel Gate? –not sure what this is known as but its one hell of a run over the top. I won 2nd prize in a photo comp with a picture of my Fronty and the view of the hills covered in snow late one march.

The Royce – just do it!!! Take care and take turns spotting going down. I been down this numerous times, has to be one of my all time great lanes.
One year I did this with 2 friends, one in a Monterey the other in a Toyota Colorado and me in my Frontera. We had an audience of 15 mountain cyclist who couldn’t believe we where going to take almost new vehicles down this hill.
Serious point – GLASS members help repair and maintain the trees at the bottom please stick to the lane and don’t travel ‘off route’.

You may have gathered by now I love this area, sadly there used to be many more tracks I would recommend but some have been lost due to the Ramblers and their political power.

Ian –go mate you might not get a chance like this again, you’ll be ok just take your time and listen to the other guys all can be done in standard form Fronteras
and Driftwood look after him and take a bloody camera ok!!!
:)

Just a couple of quick questions, what would I need to bring with me? and would I be better with 255 tyres on alloy wheels or 225 tyres on steelies, the 255 are a wider tread pattern and the 225 are road tyres :?: One last thing my 7 year old son wants to come along, apart from him annoying me would that be a problem :)

No problen with your son Ian.

Might be best with the wider tread pattern. I have muds on alloys but the alloys are battered and it wouldnt bother me if a rock chipped them.

If you have a tow rope, some basic tools for emergancies.
Warm clothes, change of shoes is a good idea.

Just incase its wet some wd40 on the electrics will help, but NOT the alternator.

A torch at this time of year would be good too.

As cyb said camera
If I think of more Ill add it, I sure Trugs will too.

Ste

Is there a reason why not to use WD40 on the alternator. After mines drivebelt connection got wet it started to sweak so i used a bit of wd40 on it. It stopped it sweaking, but i might of got some overspray on the alternator itself.

Its ok now and then, but it knackers the bushes up after a while, some other moister repelants aare ok , I think is silicone based ones are the type to use.

If you sprayed once or twice it will be fine just continued use will affect it and cost you aternator money

Cheers for the info Ste. It's a 2 hour drive out for me, but it'll be nice to follow rather than lead for a day out :D

I'll bring the Handycam

Don't forget a flask of coffee/tea and some snacks.
