Well folks recieved this today from another nice lady at Rockingham......

quote
"Ian

I understand from Nanette that you would like to break a record at Rockingham with 240 cars. I understand that you want it to be over 2 miles? Do you want it to be on the oval or infield? Also is 28th September your preferred date. Also do the cars have to be in single file or can they go out 2 or 3 abreast - if so this make it a more viable option of doing it in the lunch hour.

Thanks
Tania"

This was my reply

Quote
"Hi Tania, thanks for your speedy reply. From the rules and regs sent to me by GWR, the route has to be a minimum of 2 miles and unfortunately has to be single file with a car length between each vehicle. We dont mind if we do it on the oval, the infield or the carpark, we just want to raise as much money for our charities as possible with as many spectators as possible. I mentioned the 28th September because it was an event organised by Rockingham, it would give us more time to get more corporate sponsorship, and there is more chance of the weather being ok as we have members of our club coming from all over the country and parts of Europe, so we would like to make a weekend of it and camp at somewhere like Billing but we would be greatful of any weekend date you could offer

I understand that time would be tight for a lunchtime run but I can have everyone organised and ready to go at a minutes notice. All vehicles will be available for scrutineering if required and I have arranged independent witnesses and digital evidence gatherers.

Any assistance you can give in oure attempt to set the record would be fantastic. We just want to raise a considerable amount of cash for charity and to show the public that 4x4's are not just gas guzzling planet destroyers. Alot of our members are members of the national 4x4 response service, assisting the emergency services in times of crisis where normal vehicles are not practical, eg. during the recent floods, some of our members were called out to transport supplies to stricken members of the public.

I sincerely hope you can help us in our quest.

Ian"

Things are looking good me thinks :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hi All, Maybe when the day, date and time is confirmed, Peter can send everyone a PM on mass to say it's full steam ahead, maybe aswell it needs to be the very first thing anyone reads when they visit the site. ATB. Reeco

Not wanting to be a worryer, but assuming everyone who has put thier names down turns up for the attempt, we will still be 23 short of the current record. I thought about maybe seeing if my local Vauxhall dealers might be willing to send a few flyers out to the Frontera owners on thier books (although they'll probably say no).

I was also thinking about the whole celebrity endorsement element. If we could get someone like Sally Traffic to mention it it would be a good boost for our numbers aswell as making the event more attractive to big corporate sponsors?

Speaking of which, must ask my Bro if Hilton sponsor things like this since he's just been promoted again...

OK, so I've spoken to my Brother about corporate sponsorship from Hilton.

Sadly, they don't do that sort of thing as all thier charity stuff is dealt with through thier own foundation type thing. However, if we were to have some sort of raffle or some other prize based fund raising scheme he can offer a weekend at pretty much any Hilton hotel in the country (except the London ones) as a prize.

Chrome badge for the fronty, (along the lines of them prized AA and RAC badges of yesteryear) would be a sound choice, should be sold at cost plus a bit more to go into the charitable funds.

Even the cheaper end of the scale, maybe easier to produce, the FOG log the VX Griffin and the GWRA logo ( what ever that is :? ) as a durable sticker that has a good UV life  say 12"x5" ???
