right folks, a bit of bad news I'm afraid. The organisation my bro-in0law runs has fallen out with rockingham has fallen out big time with the track and will not be using them in the future :( On the plus side, Rockingham are running their own event on 28th September and I will be contacting them this week to arrange the lunchtime spot for this day. If you look on Rockinghams website, you will see that this is the Dunlop motorsport festival so it should be a cracking day out as well. We will have to pay an entrance fee to the course and probably wont get use of the 4x4 course :( but I will try to negotiate a good deal for the day.

Sorry for the rushed post but gotta get some work done

I'll post more info as soon as i get it

Ian

can your bro inlaw recomend anywhere else ( an off-road course would be a very big bonus) where we could hold this event other than Rockingham :?

We would need to keep within GWR rules, I think its unlikelythat we will get anything at such short notice, at least not at an affordable cost.

We used to have two PDF files explaining the rules which most have read but since the new rebuild these have dissapered.
Can we get them back again or something explaing the rules so newbies know what they are??

Just thinking Dangerous i know

Billing Aquadrome (campsite in Northampton) has a 4x4 course which is where the l/rover guys hold a large event & show every year
Is there somewhere near to there where we can go to for the GRW But camp at Billing ??
Or maybe in another part of the country,
As long as where we camp & where the GRW takes place are close to each other would it matter not being at the same place ???

Also theres Long Marston airfield near Stratford upon avon (home of avon park drag strip) & wellsborne airfield near by
All in the midlands & close to the m40, not sure of any 4x4 courses in the area though.

Re: Guinness World Record Attempt - Discussion

Everything is still fine with GWR, it doesnt matter where it takes place as long as the rules are followed, ie. 2 miles route, no overtaking, 2 car lengths between each vehicle, all same marque not parent company. It could be done on the open road but would be a logistical nightmare because roads would have to be closed, police involved, any other car that got into the convoy would invalidate the attempt.

I am still confident for Rockingham and would prefer it over an airfield pureley because of the ammount of spectators and publicity available and it's proximity to Billing Aquadrome for camping although camping is available at Rockingham. I shall be contacting them today and will hopefully be able to update you all later this evening (fiingers crossed).

Once we have this venue and date in stone then the real organising can begin like getting sponsors, media coverage, accomodation, and timings.

Personally I don't much mind where it is (I cover 1,500 to 2,500 miles per week with work so getting anywhere in the country isn't going to be a problem).

Just so long as I get a certificate :D

Bit of an update guys. I have just spoken to Nanette Houston at Rockingham enquiring about our intentions for 28th September and things sound promising although she did say that it may have to be at the end of the day, bovvered???

She is going to discuss it with whoever she needs to discuss it with and get back to me but she did sound very interested and said that if she couldn't get us 28th Sept that she would try for another weekend. 28th would be a good one though as they are hosting the Dunlop Motorsport Festival on that day.

I'll let you all know as soon as i find out anythingImage
