Hi everyone & a bit of advise reqdHi everyone.
I've recently bought a 1996 2.0 sport. I've bought it with one intention and thats to take it to off road events around yorkshire. I bought some 165x75x16 dakar insa turbos, these aren't fitted, (they look like they might be a bit tight under the arches). As I was driving back home with the tyres, at about 2500 revs the car began to caugh and splutter. The engine light came on for a short amount of time then went out. If i kept my foot down, at about 3500 revs the car was ok. The car was ok at low revs, it just struggled under load. Does anyone have any idea as I need a bit of advise???

Welcome aboard mate,
With regards to the spluttering might I suggest you run some injector cleaner through your fuel, perhaps run a tank full of hi-octane fuel through it at the same time and give it a good run up the motorway to clear the gunk out. If the vehicle has done lots of town miles and short trips the entire system gets gunked up which can cause the sort of problems your describing. Also would be well worthwhile doing a full service on it. Change the engine oil, spark plugs, plug leads, distributor cap (depending on model) and also the rotor arm, as well as getting the gearbox and diff oil levels checked and getting everything with a grease nipple greased. Infact, take a look HERE for a few other bits that might be useful. After all that is done it should run just fine, but if it doesn't then we have removed about 10 possible causes!! So it's worthwhile doing, even if it wasn't causing any problems I'd still suggest doing all of the above, and if you have the money book it in to a mechanic and get the timing belt checked (if not changed).
