The Gap

Postby yaki on Sat Oct 13, 2007 11:59 pm

Did The Gap today, my first time as well. Went south to north, followed a few green ovals at the start, the look of surprise on their faces when I came through the first tricky section was a sight

No piccies as today was a quickie but liked it soo much going back tomorrow. Its only 30mins drive from my house and it closes Mon so gonna make the most of it.

There were quite a few walkers, mountain bikes and trail riders, one cheeky lad on a mountain bike asked my if I was looking for the motorway and was my sat nav confused

The steps were interesting :!:

Anyone done it north to south up the steps :?:

My xar was standard when I went up save for some macho tyres and it was a great lane 8)

It is, its looks even better from behind the steering wheel

Another reason why I asked about going north - south as you have to climb it

Was very wet and slippery today, classic welsh weather :D

Revisited yesterday, again on my own so went South-North

Came across a few others, there was a Disco and Jeep Wrangler going up the steps, Disco made it look hard work but was a walk in the park for the Jeep :D :D

Views up there are stunning, plenty of walkers again, most were friendly but one was not impressed to see a 4x4 and made a few gestures suggesting my truck was polluting their air :!:

Will do it again when it opens in the spring, but North-South next time

They were great, although the gap is mostly stone, the start at the south end (think its called broken bridge) was quite muddy last weekend with lots of big rocks chucked in.

It went through it no problem, made the LR guys smile when it got up the other side

Toms Farm was a more severe test and yes I got stuck but so did everybody in that section, plugged through other bits that peeps were avoiding with no problems :D :D

Would I buy them again, defo but did see a set of Insa Special Track in action and was mighty impressed

Gonna look for s SWB toy after Christmas, will probably put Insa's on that as they are cheeper than the Kumho's and stick with Kumho's on the LWB

Still can't get over how quiet they are for a mud tyre

Yep, first thing most peeps ask is 'how noisy', quickly followed by 'how much', not sure if they believe me when I tell em their quiet :!:

How many miles you done on yours now :?:

Damage report

While descending what I think is called Broken Bridge there was a lound bang at the bottom as metal made contact with rock

Checked over at the time and seemed to be ok :D

Changing over the wheels last night and noticed that the sump guard is bent

No other damage and it hasn't gone up far enough to damage anything else, just glad it did its job :!: :!:
