Hello and help!Thanks for letting me in guys! will be asking for a lot of advice so sorry in advance. Just bought 2.2 lwb '96' looked great petrol/lpg, full service history, heaps receipts, full mot. 22 miles from where i picked it up from oil light came on, oil pressure dropped to non existant and engine started knocking really loudly. Private sale so no comeback, unfortunately ,although the seller has agreed to cover the cost of recovery to my address. So any help and advise gratefully received, is it as terminal as it sounds, do i need a new engine?

Welcome to the forum!
From what you have described it doesn’t sound very promising When you bought it/collected it, was there any unusual sounds / knocking? How much oil is on your dipstick, and what’s it look like (colour, consistency, any metallic bits in the oil) Any major oil leaks? http://www.crag-uk.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

hi, we didn't test drive it as there was no tax. however had a good look around, no oil leaks, started fine didn't misfire then owner revved it so that the lpg would kick in, there was no knocking or banging at all, no smoke either. it had been standing for about 6 weeks apart from him driving it for mot - no advisory notes there either. He had lifters replaced about four weeks before because of a slight tapping noise, (full receipt for these) which after done stopped. Oil flush, and change occured at this time. Checked the oil when light came on but plenty on dip and clean too. Everything indicated at time of sale no problems apart from a slight crack in the manifold we paid 1600 and thought it worth it because of all the history! RAC guy thought the oil pump may have gone and this has then caused damage to bottom end, but wouldn't there have been indication under revs or at least some smoke?? Did feel as i pulled away from junction that there was very little power (in fact i thought i saw a snail overtake me) but i put this down to not being familiar with it.
Hello and welcome - and OOPS!
Check with Trading standards as im'm sure that even with a private sale there is a period of liability (2 weeks If i think correctly) as it sounds as if the vehicle was not fit for the purpose for which it was intended .. Just paid £650 for a K plater 2.3td with a few niggles so there are bargains to be had out there - and as someone said check the Omega 2.0 engines, as frontera 2.2 engines are hidden next to the hens toothpaste and rocking horse manure pile
