Morning all another new guy here. I had a 2.0 Sport a few years ago but now on the look out for a 5 door 4x4 so I'm considering a frontera, but I need help on deciding which model to get. I know the 2.8 are highly rated but would like one with few more safety features as it will be a family car.
It's needs to be reasonably good on diesel have large boot, a good tower and reliable engine.

Which engine is better and what is considered high mileage for them.

The 2.5 is same body as the 2,8 so no additonal features

Would go for the 2.2dti they are more economical and we have done them to death, sorted them out problem wise


if its for towing and after reasonable MPG and ease of maintainance 2.8

for safety features 2.2

the 2.5 are good but the engine gets un reliable if its not maintained

we haqve probably most engine faults on the 2.5 overall

the 2.2 dti needs a few hoses replacing its more car like

also look on autotrader few 2.8s about for less money including one with 33k on

Personally, I'd say go the "R" reg.

hello mate, nice looking motor! very economical engine, 127000 only slightly over average but nothing for a diesel, just check for major leaks etc... tax is the same as mine as it is older than 2001 ---£180.

if you go to view it, just have a close inspection at the front end cos the number plate seems a bit wonky, could have just had new plates and badly fitted but just check bumper alignment in case it has had a shunt.

2.2dti is not going to win any time trials but is a nice engine and the car has very good spec.

One other point, that cd changer is in an easy to steal location. I put mine under the driver's seat by removing the seat, bolting the changer to the floor, then replacing the seat. It makes changing the cassette a bit of a pain but it is impossible to nick without removing the seat first.
