I was quite surprised and even shocked to hear of the carnage at this last weekends P&P day, and was wondering if any lessons have been learnt hear so as not to put new members off of enjoying their Frontera and perhaps educating those of us who might be too shy to ask.

Please, post you comments on why you think the damage rate was high and perhaps what you might do differently at the next event.

Come on, don't be shy, we all must have some lessons to learn.

the main thing I have learnt is I need a snorkel as my air filler is now rather muddy and my front fog lights need sealing. think Fusion will back me here and say I pushed my Fronty real hard and didn't have any major probs. I only did the bits that I was happy with doing.

Didn't have a hangover on sunday as I didn't sleep saturday night

it was a very hot weekend with mud drying on rads quick.... pushing cars hard up hills and off road in this heat needs the cooling system to be working at its best..... so its an idea to keep an eye on rads and temp gauges.....

I have to admit, Nifty, I was very impressed as a passanger in your standard Sport on ATs.

And yes, nobody made anybody do anything they didnt want to.

I knew my truck had problems before i started off on Friday. With hind sight i should have rented a car and just come for the social side of the meet.

Most of us pushed our trucks quite hard. Any clay-based mud will hurt a rad, especially with the heat we had over the weekend.

Any lessons learnt...............
Maybe the silver Griffin shouldn't follow the green oval, eh Ian.  However, YOU MADE IT UP THAT HILL :!: :!:

But being serious now, respect conditions, terrain & your truck, and they will all respect you. Only do what you are happy to, and keep your rad as clean as possible, washing it regularly when you can.
An already poorly truck will not get any better when taken offroad (Jennie & Fuzion).

Basically, have fun, enjoy your truck, but be prepared for a bit of damage if you want to drive your truck offroad quite hard.

Not everyone has breakages when offroading.

Hope we are all fixed soon.

Good words Darren

As said, no one was forced into doing any thing they didnt want to.

Its up to you how hard you push your truck, no need to push it at all if you dont want to.

Not all people broke thier vehicles, probably as they were better maintained, but the hot (29 degees C) temps on the way home would not have helped blocked rads.

I hope this weekend doesnt put any body off......

Mr Paul Burton, i think you had fun, didnt you?

i have to be the first one to say the damage to my frontie was all self inflicted if id checked wear the water was going to go she wouldnt have swollowed so much but down to the fact i didnt she died
a lot of the problems caused over the weekend were down to water and i should have taken more time getting people to clean there radiators out during the weekend i cleaned monty out three times and gave her a good blasting before the drive home and his temp never moved

so i suppose lesson learnd for me and for a lot of the people attending the weekend keep radiators clean

i did take a hose but i dont no if people knew i had it darren did have a jet wash as well so i suppose there should have been a lot less breakages on the way home

i dont think hangovers or dangerous driving was any part of the problem or even pushing the trucks to hard or driving outside the individuals capabilities it was just a case of a little under prepaird about the damages of muddy water and excessive heat in fact i think the only real damage from the site was surfdudes drive shaft but again driver error not the site

the carnage from this event shouldnt put anybody off coming to another meet

all i can say is the chap in the pickup popeye had no damage and that was his first time getting his truck even wet let alone muddy he spent the weekend on road tyres and thoroughly enjoyed himself and didnt have a problem with heat or water because he kept his radiator clean
and from the general felling of the weekend so did everyone else

Well i had no problem with coolant temperature it was the oil temperature,
didnt fit the oil cooler before i went and had problems with clutch thrust bearing before and the muddy water finished it off.

The main thing is the fronty got home without being recovered i now know the weak points to modify and to be honest i dont really care that i had problems on the way home as i had such a good time over the weekend and the fronty went everywhere i wanted it to go offroad, the faults can be fixed.

Also if you have an oil cooler its just as important to wash the mud out of it as it is the radiator.

Some honest responses there peeps, thank you.

The surprisingly hot weekend did not help and added to the nature of the mud, most damage appears to have been through over heating.

So, for others wating to play, ensure your vehicle is well maintained, monitor it's performance on the day and drive withing your limits - nut most of all, enjoy your self.

Good news, Olive is alive once more.

Replaced the siezed tentioner pulley and fitted a new aux drive belt and she runns much the same as she did before.

She is being booked in to have the oil seal replaced tomorrow, and at the same time im getting the timing belt and pulleys etc done.

These were all jobs on my to do list, just that the muddy water helped get them done all at once

The offending siezed pulley

It sounds like that you guy needed one of these for after your playing!!!

http://www.ergonica.com/images/garden_sprayer.jpg

i have one that i use to clean Rad lights indicators etc, but especially the rad, i think it would have stopped a lot of the over heating problem some seemed to have!

hope this helps?? i know ASDA were doing them at about £8 ish! well worth the investment for play days or laning!!
I have driven off road for the whole of 15 minute in my life but fast learner!!
