Led bulbs

Postby olympus16270 on Fri May 04, 2018 10:50 pm

Hi all,
I need to replace a couple of bulbs so was thinking of treating Beryl to some LED bulbs.
Do I need to order Canbus compliant leds or just bog standard?
Intend to initially replace tail/reverse/stop/side/rear fogs/indicators.
Many thanks,
John.

TBH, I,m not sure the B series has a canbus system on it, but for what they cost these days, you may as well buy the canbus compliant versions

Go careful where the indicator bulbs are concerned. There needs to be a current draw equivalent to a 21 watt bulb at front and rear lamp to make the repeater on the dash work. Most LED bulbs pull next to no amps (current draw) so the repeater don't work, the indicator unit thinks it's got a bulb gone and flashes everything fast like it does when a bulb has gone. The other lights are OK to do.

Watch with the side lamp bulbs in the headlights. If you fit an LED there and it doesn't work take it out and put it back the other way round or swap the wires over at the bulb holder, most LED bulbs are polarity specific.

I just fitted LED H4 headlamp bulbs in stead of the 8 year old halogens.......the difference is amazing.

Hi guys,thanks for replies.
What an abortion I made of that.
First mistake I didn't check the bulb types before ordering so the only ones that actually fitted were rear brake/rev/indicator lights.
The front indicators were a different type so they didn't fit.
The ones that did fit were around 50% brightness of the original,so have abandoned the project for a rethink.
I will put my hand up and admit that I just ordered bog standard led's as I thought they would all perform the same so I have now also learned that is not the case.
Also an led compliant flasher unit has yet to arrive, would that sort out the issue of the repeater on the dash?
The only bulbs that haven't arrived is the front side lights ...which is also the only bulbs that had gone in the first place.
Has anyone fitted leds all round and could offer advice on suitable replacements that would perform as well as or better than the original?
Stuart,I was going to consider leds for the main lights after seeing how I got on with these.
Any items will need to be ordered by mail as the prices over here are criminal.

Stuart, can I ask what brand led's you used for the headlights please?
John.
