Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Oh. Oil going up. Does it smell of diesel? ?
Could be injector O rings
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Just been out and done a sniff test Robbie, or sticking the dip stick up my nose by accident. There is a whiff of diesel even to this old nose.
If it is the copper washers does the head face need re-cutting or can I simply drag the old ones out and after a good clean up.....drop the new ones in. ?? .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.I would think just a good clean and put back
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Just found a "how to remove 2.2 DTI injectors" guide on the net......strip and remove the inlet manifold then the complete camshaft including the vacuum pump.
If this is the case and an injector or seal has gone....i'm washing my hands of it and it's off on eBay as a non runner or it's off down the scrappies. In nearly sixty years on this planet i've owned two Vauxhalls previous to this thing. First was a new 3.0 GSI Carlton, second was a new 3.0 Omega Elite. Both of these were brilliant cars in their own very diffent ways, I put monster miles on both of them and apart from the normal comsumables nothing, absolutely nothing went wrong with either of them......shame the same can't be said for this thing. 40k on the clock, full VX service history with a folder full of bills (there's a surprise) and yet it can't even manage 300 miles in three weeks without mechanically and electically dropping to bits. .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Yer know what you mean bud, I do all my own work as couldn't afford to keep my fronteras on the road otherwise
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking. The wife's completely hacked off with it and just wants rid.....absolutely no confidence in it what so ever. As for risking a drive to Bulgaria in it, forget it.
A mate and his girlfriend turned up yesterday in his bright white two year old Range Rover.....then fell about laughing at the green skip parked round the back, or Frontera if you prefer. If it's not a cheap quick fix it's gone, simple as. .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Best of luck what ever way you go. Just out of interest how far south are you
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Scunthorpe....middle of nowhere.
.
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Still a northerner then lol. And not that far south
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Sort of in the middle if you like....but near enough to Yorkshire so I don't feel too homesick.
.
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Cool. Am just a tad further northelp of Newcastle.
Keep us informed of what you decide.
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Keep an eye on here LOL.
.
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.I will if it's cheap enough haha
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking. The dash thing, well they all do that, don't they.....
As for the pinking misfiring smoke screen laying POS under the bonnet. ...... we'll find out this week what's given up playing and how many pennies it's going to cost. If that exceeds how much it's worth then it's time to bin it. .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking. Here hoping it won't cost you a small fortune
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.See what they find.....non common rail so not many sensors to check, or give the lap top much to go on.
.
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Chugged and coughed it's way to my mates garage today. The tame mechanics were uber surprised at the condition of it, it's immaculate.
Sit and wait for the phone call tomorrow sometime revealing what's occured with it....... .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking. At least you got it there under its own steam, all I can think of is the seals
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Good news, it's fixed.
He plugged his computer into it, no mechanical faults, it did pick up a catastrophic vacuum failure even though all the pipes have been replaced. He won't tell me what it was at the moment, I have to pick it up in the morning and run it around for a few days to see if the fault re-appears. Very odd indeed, even his dad wouldn't tell me what's gone on. .
Re: Frontera 2.2 dti coughing and smoking.Knew it would be vac problem. Probably forgot a pipe lol. Glad it's sorted.
