3.1 trooper injector pump removal

Postby lee771 on Sun Apr 09, 2017 4:26 pm

Hi guys I've been fighting with my 3.1 today trying to get the injector pump off

All blots are undone even the ones that require 3 elbows and a whole lot of luck to get to, I just can't get it to separate from the timing pully what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Lee

Have to ask, why?

As to the timing pulley I think that I would remove that first while the pump was in position using a puller... And being ever so carful not the muller the thing!

Consider the fact that the pulley has no doubt been there since new and will be tight to remove, use of some easing fluid may be required....

Sometimes it is useful to just take up pressure with a puller, apply easing fluid and leave it be for a bit.
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Am breaking the trooper and using the money to mod my frontera, and have had a request for the pump.

Does the pulley have to be in a certain place when using the puller? Never used one before any advice would be good

And thanks for the reply

Image

Image above shows the 2.8 engine (not got time to go and rip the 3.1 engine in truck to bits for a few pics atm) which is close enough.

You can lock the pulley up using the same method for doing a belt change. Then remove the nut holding the pulley to the shaft and un-lock the pulley once that nut is off. The puller is going to line up on the shaft end with the three (use a three legged one rather than a two legged one when ever possible) legs hooking over the outer edge of the pulley.

Just to say thanks for the advice got a puller for £6 and it came off in less than 2 minuets things are so much easier with the right tools and the added confidence you get when some one that knows there stuff gives you the detals

Many thanks
