Had a fight with a crank pulley on a VM engine...couldnt lock it up as I had removed the flywheel already and injectors are out, so no compression!
Had to get creative, as they fitted it with a silly 40something mm nut, so I only had 3/4" drive sockets to fit it, and it needed gunning, but my beasty new gun is 1/2" drive... and I havent got a step up adapter...
So took a sacrificial 12mm 1/2 inch socket which fitted best into the 3/4" square and welded a nut in the end to reinforce it, and ran four lines of weld down the sides of the socket. Ran welds around the base of the socket to thicken the wall where the 1/2" drive goes in to reinforce it...
Bit a tap with a hammer to fit tightly into the facom 3/4 socket, and then unleashed all 1100 ft/lb of undoing goodness though it...at maximum arms length as some kind of detonation was probable from it....

But it worked a treat and buzzed the nut straight off!!! Bonza....rednecking rocks!!!

Have ordered a proper step up impact adapter now!!!

New exhaust middle and tailpipe finally turned up mid week so fitted that, modified the tailpipe so it's up out of harms way. Treated it to new wiper blades as well. All I gotta do now is book it in and take for MOT next Saturday..... better start preying regularly.

Regards

Removed the side steps (off the Volvo); 5 easy nuts amd the need of the angle grinder on the 6th

I must say though, the side steps on a Frontera are far, far better than the cheap alloy things I just removed off the Volvo.

Drove it (Truck) to Bristol and back, round trip of appx 100 miles. At no time was an RAC Van involved
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Only a little thing. As the Mk.II is an import it had an aftermarket rear fog light fitted. This meant an ill fitting switch in the dashboard. Anyways I picked up a genuine rear fog light switch, and wired it in. It is the little things that make a difference.

Also fills one of those annoying blanks :D

Fitted a new rad I got of fleabay to Truck, fitwise not the best of rads I've seen I must admit but at £42.00 plus £6 p&p I can't complain too much.

Had to 'trim' the bottom locating pins on the fan cowl to fit the round locating points on the new rad but apart from that all seems okay.

Also replacing part of the induction pipework (from the intercooler, hose - metal pipe - hose) with the similar sections from a 2.5 TD as a trial.

Delayed MOT test (the 2.8)

Passed - hole in o/s/r sill now though...bubbling was a bit more than surface..

And to cap it all injector pipe started to leak along with the diff cover...

Sam, mostly still up on the day. :-)

Fitted the newer style coolant tank bracket to allow me to mount the y22dth coolant tank. Because of the newer turbo fitted. Now think the alternator has gone again. :x

Left a boy racer at the lights ... seems my engine growl was better than his ..that and wheels spins in a 4x4 were clearly not expected ... had him hang his head and all of sudden were not as cocky any more!

I felt so sorry for him ... sorry no I didn't I'm lying !!

Truck...

Saturday saw me taking it for a day's laning round some Oxfordshire Lanes with the GLASS Oxfordshire crew, a fine day was had, Truck didnt get stuck (no real surprise there tbh) and the engine ran as advertised all day.

Sadly with places to go, I had to sort of give up on the day's looong list of lanes come tea time so apologies were made and a quick dash home from Ogbourne St George ensued (remaining lanes to be completed later in the month).

Following the quick dash home, a welcome brew was supped. OiC HF and bag chucked into the truck and we were off again, this time a quick blast down the M/Way from Brize to Buckfastleigh. Again, Truck or rather the 3.1 lump hiding under the bonnet performed as expected and we arrived in time for a nice nose bag in the resturant.

Sunday, saw us all over Dartmoor, well Princetown, 2 Bridges, Bellver Forest, Dartmeet & Poundsgate to be more precise, then on through Totnes (traffic still hasent improved going thru Totnes after what, 30 years ffs) and to Paignton. Spent a few hours on the beach and then back on the roads through the Devon Country side to the M5 and we were on the way back home. Finally got home at 20:30 after two days driving and 400 miles. Truck performed well, with no missed beats etc and returned a fair overall 28 mpg having done a days laning (appx 60 miles), a couple of M/Way dashes (appx 100 miles each way) at a steady 70 and the rest getting thrown across Dartmoor and down some Devon Lanes the grockles couldnt find if they tried!

All in all, a successful road test!

Just done the Cam belt (including pulley's) and water pump on the Mk.II. Never done it on my own before, and only ever witnessed it once over 2 years ago.

Book time is 3 hours. Done in 2 1/2.

Feeling chuffed.

After 17 days I have finally got a new windscreen fitted to the jeep. It took a good half dozen calls to both the insurance company and autoglass. They haven't called to take my excess either yet so that's a bonus, but they'll probably call any minute now

More work on the SWB over the past few days

Have removed the rear wiring loom from under the SWB and have rereouted it through the inside. Nearly complete just need to crimp on the new multiplugs and refit the rear lights

Rear bumper I made for the LWB has been sand blasted, painted and fitted to the SWB

Replaced all the fuel pipes and fuel tank breather with 8mm plastic tubing running along the top of the chassis
Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one :-(
