Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Broke it, now waiting for RAC to rock up and tow it home. Not 100% what's wrong with it. First thought was cam belt as there were sounds of something slapping on something before it died, it cut out at a roundabout as I was pulling off from a complete stop. On trying to restart the engine would not even turnover, almost as though it was seized solid. I have since checked the cam belt and it looks okay, but that was via the wee inspection hatch so have no idea of the belt teeth. Also I have managed to start it although it ran rough as a ...... And then stopped solid again so somethings going on that shouldnt be.
So at time of the original failure: Oil pressure was ok Coolant levels and temperature ok The cam belt looks okay subject to further inspection.... Engine stopped and wouldnt turn over Link to thread 2.8 4JB1 with more rattles than well a 2.8! here, anyone got any sensible ideas towards the problem? This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been
Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Sold my spare 2.8 engine, don't want to but with funds being low and a wedding to contribute towards it was a quick way of getting some cash (yes I know I am going to regret it someday soon)
So before it goes I need to relieve it of its exhaust manifold which has the tapping and adaptor for an EGT gauge, SWB is in the garage and the manifold is nearly off ready to swap onto the engine I've sold Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Last night I had a look at the 2.5 and why it wouldn't start on the starter and found that the battery terminal on the solenoid had broken off and was just hovering in mid air (hmmm might have something to do with it lol) pulled the started off and replaced the solenoid with a new one I had laying about (prime example of why hoarding is a good thing) wired up the factory start circuit and nothing, no clicks or anything. So I packed away and went to bed lol (about 3am)
Just got out of bed and tried to start it again and voila! She took a few turns of the key to work but now it seems to be working every time 1st time. Woop! Free fixes are the best! Well chuffed! ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!" Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Walked past it on the way to work this morning wondering how long it would take me to chop it up with the gas axe, then just kicked it (again) and trotted off to work in O-no pondering whether to fix or just replace the engine (or both)...
