Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Saturday.
Got new pads for the front and back. Started on the backs first. Whipped the wheels off and looked at the partially rusted disks and thought "Hmm". Undone the rear passenger caliper and two bits of near bare metal dropped out that were at one stage brake pads and thought "Hmmm". Went to undo the handbrake cable from caliper and rubber boot of the cable disintegrated and powder fell to the floor and thought "Hmmmm". Went to move that part of the handbrake cable inside sleeve and it was siezed solid with no chance of budging and thought "Hmmmmm". Phoned Milners for a new cable and they didn't have any in stock and thought "Hmmmmmm". Phoned local autofactors and they can get one for £30 plus dreaded and thought "SH1T" but had no choice as they were the only ones who get them (including Milners). Blueprint part so should last. Went to wind the piston in and heard the dreaded "click" as the mech inside the piston popped out due to the piston being siezed and thought "Hmmmmmmm". Clamped the line off and removed the caliper to inspect. Piston outer boot was perished and caused the piston to be siezed and thought "Hmmmmmmmm". Pulled the caliper apart and un-siezed the piston. Cleaned everything up and dug out a spare piston boot. Fished the piston internals out from the caliper and used a vice to push it back into the piston. Dug out the spare piston boot from my box of spares and put it all back together again. Noticed spare piston boot has a small hole in it and thought "Hmmmmmmmmm". Got on the blower to Brakes International and ordered a new seal kit for £20 and thought "SH11T" Looked closely at the rear disks and they closely resembled the grand canyon ... colour and everything and thought "Hmmmmmmmmmm" Phoned everywhere for disks locally only to be told that there are none in the country and thought "Hmmmmmmmmmmm" Phoned Milners who had them on the shelf. £50 lighter should have them by Tuesday and thought "Hmmmmmmmmmmmm" Took drivers side rear wheel off and looked at the caliper. Took it apart and was faced with pads what were similar to passenger side. No surprise. Disk was just as bad but thats ok I had some on order now. Looked at handbrake cable and noticed a hole in the boot and thought "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm" Phoned Milners and added a new cable to the order for £15 and thought "SH111T" Put drivers side together again and re-fitted wheel. Rear brakes: Time taken 6 hours and cost me £140 and the brakes are still at the same stage they were when I started (apart from reconditioned caliper) and thought "F*CK, BO**OCKS, TW*T, C*NT, SH*T" Looked at the front wheels and prayed to the Great Grease Monkey in the sky. Changed the pads in the front in 30 mins complete with cleaning everything up and copperslip/greasing all the mech with no hassle at all. Front brakes: Time taken 30 mins and cost me £15 and thought "Go figure, the ones which get the most abuse were fine ... I hate Mk.I Trooper rear brakes. It was only 18 months ago I reconditioned them with all new pads and disks and calipers" Went home and got drunk. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Nothing to mine but back at the Picasso 20hdi
It had been loosing a fair bit of water but no visible leaks I sussed it, they have two coolant bleed screws and the one at the back of the rocker cover had a slight leak and I could smell the coolant in the cab, so as I touched it tonight to see how bad it was it gave up the ghost completely and the cap split. I whizzed the dust cap off one of my spare tyres and cut the finger from a latex glove and popped that over the valve (to make a good seal and protect the cap from possible corrosion from the anti freeze) and screwed the dust cap on then topped up, result job done My Fronty just looks like an uninviting block of ice sat outside the house Ste

Not bad for a 17 year old truck with 207k on the clock. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Yesterday I set about changing the drivers side front wheel bearing seeing as I had done the passenger side last week. Well tbh to say it only made a noise when I took the weight off it, ie turned right...f#&king hell was it faq'd
The inner bearing had compleatly collapsed and the rollers had jammed causing the race to turn and wear a nice band into the bearing casing jobby meaning that even if I replaced the race with the new one it would be useless because it would just turn instead of the bearings. good thing i still have the B that im breaking...i pulled the breaing/hub/brake disk off that, unbolted the brake disk as it was compleatly worn out, so i was left with just the inner hub, did the same with the original, swaped the brake disks over and bolted the B series inner hub to the good brake disk off the 2.8 and set about installing the new bearings...wow what a faff. Started the job at about 3 and finished at about 9. Was not a happy chap and dam near had a mental brake down for a good while until I remembered that the B's have the same hubs as the coiler A's. Really worrying thing is I checked it last week when I rebuilt the manual hubs and it had some play...but nothing like as much in the vid. Scary how quick it had deteriorated. ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!" Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Bloody hell Dan when we check your bearings the other week the drivers side only had about 2mm of play. What are you doing in your car for it to be like that in less then 3 weeks.
Whilst you had it all apart did you check the ball joints. i hate having Dyslexia
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Nothing. Thetford was only long distance trip its done recently. Probably only done abit 300 to 400 miles since we did the welding... If that even. And there's no play now it has new bearings

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Did one of the more (less) importent things today....fully unwound the winch, flicked the lumps of mud off and wound it back in while giving it a good coat of 3in1 oil
For those that dont know this bit of road is sloped slightly. So I parked grans crapolla at the top, hooked the winch hook onto its towbar and used the truck as a dead weight so that the cable gets wound up nice and tight so it looks nicer ![]() ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!" Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!well 3in1 is better than nothing, but it really needs to be greased not oiled.
since a good steel rope should have a grease core that will help keep the rope not rusting CARTREK

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Petrol and bleach gets a good result for smoking tyres, don't know the correct ratio though so don't ry it.
Remember, keep the greasy side down!

Checked the wheels and the front offside was a bit warm. Hopefully it will only be an easy fix sticking caliper. Kodiak Transglobe 2.0 SWB

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Due to my gearbox having as much water as oil in it , the gearbox froze solid this morning
Dropped the oil (after getting it hot) and stuck some fresh in there. Botched up the towbar wiring so I can tow whats left of the Dti to the breakers tomorrow
