Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Tryed to fit my alpines from the dti into the 2.8 seeing as 3 of the 4 speakers are blown....the rears wouldnt be a problem except that between removing them from the dti and fitting it tonight the bass cone has stopped working on one (just the 2-way tweeter doing its thing)....so seeing as the only original speaker that wasnt blown was a rear I now have a nice 200w alpine and a 10w stock speaker in the back...oddly enough tho they both sound about the same....and maybe the stock speaker might have a slightly deeper bass to it
As for the fronts...well I left the replacement speakers in Cambridge lol....so They'll have to wait. But it sounds MUCH better with just the rears playing now that both of them dont fart and rattle at every opportunity ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!" This vehicle runs on 100% recycled dinosaurs
Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!After folding my tow bar back against the fuel tank guard during my epic fail at the August SE weekener, I finally done the last job required in removing the twisted tow bar. Got the 3 snapped off bolts out of their respective captive nuts.
Started last Sunday with the drilling out at an angle due to restricted access. Managed to get a hardened nail into a drilled hole to get a bit of leverage. Would have worked had the remnants of the bolt not been bent, so attempted to twist it all the way in rather than out. Hit a snag when leverage wasn't an option as the nail had to come out. Plan B was to have my first attempt at using the stick welder that I bought last year. The idea being to weld a thin bolt onto the stud and twist it all the way through. Gave the welding a go but unfortunately didn't get a result, so got the white flag out and went and banged on my mates door down the round. He had a look and reckoned the arc welder was a no no and decided he could do the necessary with his Mig welder. Well impressed with his method, he was able to add to the stud length by building it up with molten welding wire. That gave enough matter to weld a 19mm nut to. Result, the broken stud was able to be twisted out. Then moved over to the broken studs on the drivers side. Same method with building up with molten Mig wire to weld a 19mm nut to. This stud put up more of a fight and needed another two weld ups with new nuts before we got the stud out. Had to add weld around the captive nut to get heat into the nut to compensate the heat the bolt had been given. Required quite a bit of doing up and undoing with a good soaking of WD40 to fight the rust build up, but we got there in the end.
