Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Accidently went wading today due to suffolk floods.
Pootling along a lane to work (after being diverted). Lady in a Range Rover coming the opposite way flagged me down and said its really deep further on. I thanked her and drove round the corner and stopped. Surveyed the scene. Road flooded with water with a Peugeot 206 sat in the middle with its hazards on abandoned. The water was only up to the top of its bumper so I thought it should be fine. Pulled away smoothly and built up speed to generate a healthy bow wave. Got to the Pug and a guy on the verge started waving at me and pointing down the road. Thats when I saw the police tape across my exit point. Dumb ass coppers had blocked one end off but not the one I entered by. Realised why soon enough as the water level increased dramatically after the pug. Picked up a bit more speed and the enevitable battery light came on as the alternator got a soaking (happens in deep puddles as its at the bottom of the engine and always gets a soaking). Banshee was still pulling and had good traction so I picked up a bit more speed to increase the bow wave a bit more. Now my ass started to twitch a bit as the water level was up to the bonnet top, and looking out the side windows I was a bit concerned to see the water was washing the underside of my wing mirrors. You have to bear in mind that Banshee has a 2" suspension lift, and 31" tyres on so an extra 3" of height. I was now wading through a puddle of water almost 4' deep I was well and truely comitted to the cause. Keeping it steady and smooth I ploughed on through. I had to cover about 20 meters like this and was relieved to see the water level dropping as the road started to incline towards the exit point. I pulled up behind the police tape (which should of been at both ends of the flood Six points of note here: 1) On inspection afterwards I had no water ingress inside of the truck. The door seals kept the water out completely. 2) Isuzu did a really good job on the design of the air intake on the Mk.I. The air intake vent sits above the drivers side front wheel arch. The ducting (all with tight rubber seals) then runs to the front of the truck, routing in front of the top of the radiator to the passenger side, then into the engine bay into the airbox which sits at the front passenger side of the engine bay. In the run at the front is a water trap, and again another water trap in the bottom of the airbox. All of this means that so long as the trunking is water tight, and you have a good enough bow wave then there is a very very good chance that water will not find its way into the engine. As I found out today. 3) Greg did a really good job of attaching my arch flares as they stayed on throughout all of it. 4) A fully tricked out (large tyres, lifted, snorkel, winch etc etc) Landrover Defender watched me do the run and as I left the water drove off the other way chickening out 5) I was lucky to be honest. Much deeper and I think I would of come a cropper. 6) I almost shat myself when the water level deepened dramatically, but I felt so so smug after making it through ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!And as a final ooh yeah thought, been out with a screwdriver and swapped out the OEM front speakers for some halfway decent ones.
I've not bothered for the last 5 weeks cos I've not done anything longer'n an hour in a single journey. Beggered if I'm doing all the way to Sibbertoft and back again with farty, 'orrible cardboard speakers. Vx mystify me as far as ICE goes... Some cars like the Cavi, Astra, of similar vintage have decent Blaupunkt kit, then others have 'orrible cardboard stuff like this. Oh well, can now do some decent tunes on the way north. Jim...
