Some people are like Slinkies... not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Fitted the new alternator on the 2.8lwb...that bottom bolt is a git...my hands are too big to get in there to get the nut on it...taped the nut into a ring spanner with insulation tape in the end, then held it in place and turned the bolt head on the front of the alternator with a rachet...GIT!!!
The rest was easy peasy...and now it charges properly, not at 24v+....battery seems ok though...nearly started the car without a jump and its been standing for a fortnight...will see how it goes, with jump cables in the boot just in case... Just warming up then going out to valet the inside and change the seats.... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!That alty lower nut is a complete Barstowd to tighten, the nut can fall out, it happened to me a few years ago so I now have a locking nut on the end to stop it ever coming off again.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I must admit I struggled abit with that bottom bolt aswell
Today I cleared all the mud out the rear arches from our picnic so I could then get to the bolts holding the rear mudflaps on. Removed them and took the mangled mudflaps off after Gregsters dumper tyres modifies them..... Ramsgate, Kent

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I had a nasty screeching, metal on metal sound the last couple of weeks. Thought it may have been rear gearbox output shaft bearings. After removing the propshaft to have a look it turned out to be the rear UJ at the diff. Took the prop off the donor truck in its entirety and swapped it over. No more noise and no more vibration.
Point to note tho. I checked the UJ's and none of them had play in them until I separated the prop from the diff flange. One spider was very, very stiff and the other was flopping around a lot. Strange one really as I grease them up every month or so and they were replaced about 12 months ago. Last edited by Sir-Doris on Fri Jan 22, 2010 10:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.
