Postby fogman on Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:01 am

if i was going to look at a 2.5 tomorrow [ which i may well do ] what should i pay special attention to ? where should the oil pressure needle be sitting with a warm engine ?
i have researched already but i couldnt find too many weak points on this model

i have noticed the no1 injector has been mentioned from time to time so whats that all about please guys ?

cheers in advance

my oil pressure is around half way at tick over and moves up just past the three quarter mark when revving,if its not in limp mode its safe to say no1 injector is ok,take it for a test drive and make sure it revs up ok,if its in limp mode it will not pull very well over two thousand revs,if its ok it should pull well after 2 thousand revs, not had any major problems with mine, first thing that ever went was the heater blower, that was the heater resistor thing in the duct just past the blower under the dash on the passenger side, all i did was resolder the connections on it as the solder had melted, that was few years ago and its still fine, another problem i had was intermittent starting problems, that was the glow plug relay,i opened it up and again noticed bad connections where the solder had melted, just resoldered them and its never not started since, cant think of anything else that the 2.5 is prone too

Listen to the engine while it is ticking over. If it rattles then stop it and check for play in the 2 idler bearings.
Dont worry though as they are easily and cheaply repaired.
If it whistles on your road teast, the EGR valve could be loose. They come from the factory with no spring washers fitted to the 2 securing bolts.
Check for a light oily substance around the intercooler pipes which will mean the intercooler and EGR valve will need removed and cleaned.
Generally the 2.5TD is a great engine which replaced the former 2.8 and it has the same output. Torque is very good too, and as long as the oil and filters are changed on a regular basis, you will have a very enjoyable vehicle.
Regards, Keith.

Cant you get the guy to come down a bit?
Shouldnt pay more than around £1500 for a "R" reg even in good nic.
Give him your details and tell him to call you when he cant sell it.
Regards, Keith.

Quite steep at that price!

I was lucky and got mine at a MUCH lower price with similar mileage and what look like similar nick. I think he should halve the price :)

Starting price of £1400.00? Who is he kidding?
No wonder there are no bids.
He'll come down to earth once he gets no response. Keep an eye on it, or you could fire him an offer once he has run out of time.
And someone needs to tell him there are 8 brake pads not 4. :D
