Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I picked up Frontera No 2 tonight (Y reg 2.2i RS Sport) , stuck her on the back of a Transit and trailer...
brought her near home so I can strip the engine out and put it in mine, so I can get up and running...Hope everything goes to plan.. Will try and take pics as I go along.. Hopefully then I will strip down the donor car for spares...

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I just picked a fight with the top control arm and nearly lost... Damn theyre tighter than Drifty
In the end Ive done complete bearing swap front pas, clean and re-grease drivers front, then added 3mm shims to the control arms. I ended up with 2x12"extension bars with a 22mm socket on to a T breaker bar which had a 4ft scaffold pipe on each end. The Mrs helped and it took some breaking, then needed the 4ft bars all the way on one bolt to undo and tighten. Ive been wd40'ing for over a month, didnt believe it could be that tight. Even had to call the Bernie monster for a pep talk half way through when I was out of ideas. Ta old un, amazing the difference a moment to think makes. Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Ta mate
Bernie was here when you rang, you set off some funny memories from when we did mine, both hanging on the bar then the nut cracked and we ended up in a heap on the floor thinking we sheared the nut. Well today I checked my rear diff oil as the seal has a very slight leak, been meaning to do it for ages and was pretty sure it would need topping up but took the filler out and oil flowed out so alls good there, Ill live with the tiny leak a bit longer as I have plans for the axle Ste

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Strange you should say that Ste ... I finally got round to mine today. I must have caught it on one of the offroad days, and it slightly bent the bottom of the plate, causing a slight leak. I thought from the mess around the diff that I had lost most of the oil, but strangely enough it was still mostly full.
Drained the diff, cracked the rear plate, refitted with hematite and tightened back up. Hopefully that will sort it. Even better ... very very little metal in the old oil ... hopefully the diff will last a bit longer! Jay

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!I think thats how I did my leak
I wonder if a piece of flat metal welded flush to the bottom of the diff housing then curved/turned up around the diff pan could protect the lip on the diff pan? Ste

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!It certainly needs something ... the diff plate is an easy target, being the bit that's likely to get scraped ...
Where are the fabricators!? Jay

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!Looked into that a long while ago, they wont fit as the diff is a complete different shape, they bolt on using a tension method.

Re: WHAT YOU DID TO YOUR TRUCK TODAY!might be easyer just to shave the bottom of the diff plate, just so it sits just slightly higher than the diff bottom
