Hi & welcome! Try provide a bit more info, does it die at idle or when pulling off etc etc.
Its best to do at least a basic service when acquiring an old vehicle.
Do an oil & filter change as well as the air filter, even if it looks ok. Also the fuel filter which is located underneath the car close to the rear off side door. It could also be the black fuelpump relay found behind the near side headlight.

Hi to FOG,
I had the same problem with my J reg 2.4i when i had it and YES it was the fuel relay found behind the near side headlight, did not find out thats what it was until i had changed fuel filter & a fuel pipe
photo shows what fuel relay looks like out of truck .

I Like this Truck of mine, just like me it's well run in it's not old just older.

red relay headlam washers you could have a bad connection to the fuel pump or bad earth on tank also check your fuel filter
try blowing down fuel pipe with filler cap off it might be blocked micro filter in the tank
the pump is in the tank if you have dirt in the system it will block filter on the pump
