Just a few thoughtsThink I have signed up to take part in the attempt and if time allows try to keep up with the post.
I would happily pay a £10 fee just to make my interest known but taking part depends upon time and location. My busiest time for work is always school or public holidays so time off goes out of the window. The park where I work could more than handle 300 motors( the site covers 1200 acres) and already handles over 350 caravans and motor homes at any one time, but I think due to our location it would be to far for many to travel. Location is a key to ensure we get as many people in one place at one time unless you create a rolling convoy starting from one location with other members joining at agreed locations and all arriving at an agreed final location at the same time. One final thing .The group is International right??How many of our international members live close to each other. A GWR attempt based in GB is good but if there was also a simultaneous number of motors moving around the world on the same day would make for great press and interest. Andi

Re: WRAHi all,
just a thought but if vauxhall aint interested in anything to do with this record attempt it might be worth while contacting vauxhall motorsports as they have large input into rallying. They were also key sponsors of the vauxhall rally of wales for several years. They might be interested and be able to have some input and ways to advise and assist us. Will try find out contact information and some numbers asap. I for one am truly looking forward to this event. Lets not let this fall by the wayside. Life is a bitch but dont let em grind you down

Hi All
what about asking a celebrity to attend the GWR.....someone like Richard Hammond .. he loves 4x4's and if we offer to make a small donation to the Air Ambulance service that took him to the hospital, he might appear for no fee, he's a nice bloke....thought I'd just throw that in the mix ![]() Rocky 2008 ....................... Combining our SkillsModerators please feel free to move this to a different area if you wish
As it would seem that this event is gaining speed would somebody like to take on a challenge of compiling a database containg members occupations and life skills. For example I am a Chef and have a good relationship with various food suppliers who may be able to support and supply goods but i am also trianed in intermidiate Health and safety at work and First aid trained. Two good skills when organising a large event. The largest event I have personaly arranged was for 450 people and the planning and organisation was huge. Also my skills can be put to good use for the BBQ. However as this site has so many members I am just one small part and with so many members skills, contacts, sponsorship, etc may become lost without a structure in place that can show who can do what. Please feel free to comment on this as this is just how I do things when event planning. At present I am also working on a few new ideas to promote the event but work is busy and not much free time. Anybody with there own website be intersted in a promotional banner for the event. If enough of you will design one! Andi

Here's where, after hopefully having made constructive posts until now, I risk becoming extremely unpopular
I don't think myself that Vauxhall would have anything to do with an event highlighting a defunct model that in it's last year the sales just collapsed, any more than they'd attend a Vauxhall Viva Rally. They might do if they were given prominence with half a dozen Antaras at the front of the line if it was a TV publicised Charitable Event however. But their production manager would still use the Antaras to the detriment of the previous 4x4 model, believe me! But here is my BIG reservation. No matter how much Charitable Funding was raised, no matter how much fun it all was. It would just take ONE big name motoring correspondent like Quentin Willson to appear on the scene, still bearing the same old grudges against the Frontera, - or even worse, Clarkson to take an interest in the occasion, - and either of them to start passing comments once again about the Vauxhall Frontera, and everyone in the Country who owned one would be ridiculed and old wounds would be opened. I'm not suggesting that either would actually appear on the day, - but I would not trust them in a month of Sundays not to comment in some newspaper column after the event. There are those amongst the Landrover fraternity who would also attempt to cause maximum damage and ridicule as well. Tony (with apologies). 1996 2.0 Sport - owned since October 1998.

Thats a very worthy point Tony .....but ...
I feel that when this huge event does take place not only will it raise a few eyebrows as to just how many frontera's there actually are ...but also make some of the "other make 4x4's" realise that we (like them) are pretty danmed serious about our cars.. we have a good healthy mix of moddified fronteras and standard motors and all across the engine/model range ..and one or two being used for trialing events.. so it's not just about "oh i have a frontera" ...it's almost like a "following" (no different to the LR enthusiasts)
Tony, Do you intend getting involved ?
We can't live our lives with if and an's syndrome. This will be one hell of a do with or without backers, the crack will be awesome, a chance to meet so many forum members and no doubt it will be one of the, if not the biggest internet vehicle meet, that I know about. It's a great idea, lets crack on and make it happen. ATB. Reeco
If there were Regional gatherings then we'd love to participate. North Wales, Cheshire, Lancashire or Derbyshire would be fine by us. I can just picture doing a Handycam Video of 20 or 30 Fronteras approaching the Cat and Fiddle Inn between Macclesfield and Buxton (a nice stopping point too often used by Classic Car Clubs, motorcyclists etc); or The Snake Pass; or maybe just gathering on the Promenade at Colwyn Bay (that's a great place!) I cannot, sadly imagine us travelling further afield. Weekends are our busiest Business time of the week too, but planned months ahead we could overcome that. Once again, I don't want to pour cold water on anyone's plans. Sincerely - Tony. 1996 2.0 Sport - owned since October 1998.

Hi Tony, I am just waiting for Rocking Raceway to get back to me with available dates for next summer so believe me, we will have plenty of advanced notice to be available for the weekend. You really do not want to miss out on this. ![]() SIZE DOES MATTER!! MEMBER 1728 1996 2.8 SWB called VIPER Members Ride section for VIPER Comments on VIPER here GET YOUR CARTOON CAR HERE

Well, good news everyone. I had a lengthy phone call with my contact at Rockingham Raceway last night. We definately have Rockingham as our venue, just the date to be fianlised but it will almost certainly be a Sunday in September 2008. My Brother-in-Law is a rally organiser and will be holding a stage rally there in sept next year. We will hopefully have a lunchtime slot for the attempt, for about an hour. The circuit will be a layout customised to suit our needs, ie. at least 2 miles long accomodating at least 200 frontys.
He did offer a date in early March 2008 but with the weather we get in this country, chances are it could be snowing or at least very wet, which would not make for a great weekend of camping, BBQ's and an Autojumble, so I opted for the September gig. One other bonus is that for a nominal fee (TBA) fog may have exclusive use of the 4x4 course at Rockingham as I'm sure a lot of us will want a litlle play espescially on the non-damaging section, (Bro-in-Law did it in a Fiat X19 so it cant be that bad). The only drawback I can see at the moment is that we will still have to pay the entrance fee to the Raceway but I am negotiating a reduced rate for FOG Members. I hope this answers a few questions and puts a few doubts at rest and I will keep everyone informed of any more developements. ![]() SIZE DOES MATTER!!
